Doctor Who is in danger of becoming Doctor MacWhoots-nanny.

Funny... I commented on another post about how Michelle Gomez would make an excellent replacement for Kate O'Mara's Rani *enter Rani speculation cycle*

Great news she is fabulous, wicked, SO funny, loved her in Green Wing ; )

She does have a more than passing resemblence to the wonderful Kate O Mara but I think that's a ruse :)

Why do people keep saying Time-Lady? It's such a horrible term IMO. Every time I hear it I can't help thinking of Little Britain. Romana refers to herself as a Timelord in The Pirate Planet and as far as I know the term Time-Lady was only mentioned once. There's no need to segregate the male and female Timelords by giving them different titles.

For some reason this reminds me of the key to time arc.

She looks like an evil Mary Poppins O_O

A female mysterious, strange character. I wonder how many people have already speculated that she is the Rani. There are aloud to be enigmatic characters in this show without them having to be from Gallifrey. (I'm going to have to eat my hat if she turns out to be from Gallifrey not. If I had a hat).

Hmm, I always suspected Mary Poppins was a Time Lady..

She's got the coolest name for a villain...The Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere. So cool.

Moffat, why do you sound so thrilled about the satanic part?  ......So THAT's how you got to produce two shows!

*Sighs* Well, I suppose we all know that she isn't the Rani...

I sense she's  a timelady or a member of a similar, important, timey wimey, dimensiony wensiony species though

Hhmmm... Look, on her right wrist... Vortex Manipulator, perhaps something else...?

Her answer sounds like she was being interrogated and she was a bad liar. Very odd manor of speaking.

Anyway, sounds intriguing! Can't wait!

I hope she's a good and proper character and not "sassy and flirty"

Man I love her, she's gonna be great!

Like others I thought the Netherspheres sounded like the Neverweres (which is a fantastic name for a species...). Could be like the Oodsphere or the Sense Sphere. I love the name though and the look - this has me incredibly excited. Sounds like a great concept and a very interesting character.

A tiny bit satanic, eh? Sounds like she'll be fun!

I'm sorry -- that hair and makeup are far to reminiscent of Lara Pulver's turn as Irene Adler that I'm sort of expecting her episode introduction to be visiting the Church of the Papal Mainframe (without benefit of holography of course).

All the comments about the word "Nethersphere" and hardly anyone excited about the fact Michelle Gomez is in it! Well, based on other things I've seen her in we're in for a treat, I think....

Ooh! Perhaps that's the title of episode "The Gates of the Nethersphere" sounds very fantastical.

I think she might be a time-lady. The Nethersphere sounds similar to The Meanwhiles and Never-weres

"Nethersphere" sounds very... dimensionally. Like it's a dimension or a pocket universe or something. With the word "gatekeeper" added it reminds of Warrior's Gate a lot... E-space anyone?

Maybe she guards the timelord graves, that rest in peace,we promise things could be where dead timelords like the master go

She was great in Green Wing and if she gives a similar performance, then she will be brilliant.

I hope its an incarnation of Romana to protect the bubble Gallifrey's been on as instructed by the Doctor

Looks like a great casting, and yet another Scot as part of the show! She does give off a Mary Poppins look. I wonder if this is for the finale, something to do with Gallifrey- perhaps 'dead' Time Lords go up to the 'Nethersphere'... All we need now is the Master to be re-cast, but to be honest, I would like that to be a surprise. It seems these days, we are very well informed about plots, titles and casting way before the transmission.

This looks like an interesting development. I suppose this is in the finale, with the paternoster gang, rather than in episode 1.

@FlopHairedWuss The term is used in the audios and books a LOT, and while there not officially canon, the writers for the series have been reading/writing them for years so the term will probably be used. I dont see why you hate it, the female equivalent to a lord is a lady is aristocracy (I hope thats the right word), so it would make sense that they would be called that.

I can't help but think of the nightosphere from adventure time.

Also, she's the gatekeeper? So where's the keymaster?
