David Tennant Voted Best Ever Doctor (Again), Jodie Whittaker in Close Second
David Tennant has been declared the best ever Doctor in a 2020 Radio Times poll.
Reportedly, more than 50,000 people voted the Tenth Doctor actor ahead of his nearest challenger Jodie Whittaker, by just 95 votes.
The pair each received 21% of votes, with Tennant selected by 10,518 people compared to Whittaker’s 10,423.
Peter Capaldi came third in the poll with 8,897 votes (18%). Matt Smith attracted 7,637 votes (16%) placing him fourth, while Tom Baker was fifth with 3,977 (8%).
Peter Davison came bottom with just 351 votes (1%).
The full results:
- 1. David Tennant 10,518 / 21%
- 2. Jodie Whittaker 10,423 / 21%
- 3. Peter Capaldi 8,897 / 18%
- 4. Matt Smith 7,637 / 16%
- 5. Tom Baker 3,977 / 8%
- 6. William Hartnell 1,983 / 4%

The results will no doubt raise some eyebrows. Not for David Tennant winning (as that is never a surprise), but Jodie Whittaker coming so close to knocking him off the top. By contrast DWTV’s own best Doctor poll of 2019, which had over 100,000 votes, saw Whittaker place last.
