Could Doctor Who Last Indefinitely?
Previously Steven Moffat stated that he expects Doctor Who to last at least 15 years in its present form. Recently Fifth Doctor Peter Davison has given his own thoughts on the longevity of the show.
Speaking to Bang Showbiz he said: “I think it will go on fairly indefinitely … As long as there are people who are fans of the programme who keep on making the programme it will be fine. That’s the reason it came back on air and has been on TV for 10 years.
He adds: “Russell T. Davies is a big Doctor Who fan; Steven Moffat is a big Doctor Who fan and I think those people understand the programme and understand that sometimes it has to re-invent itself and move on and do things differently and I think while those sort of people are at the helm then the show will continue.”
However, Davison believes another break somewhere down the line could be beneficial: “Whether it goes on hiatus at some point remains to be seen. Although I was extremely disappointed when it was taken off air there’s no doubt that when it came back that it came back as a hugely prestigious programme which is something it probably wouldn’t have done if it had been on the air all that time.”
