1. The Well
Average voter score: 7.30

“The Well” emerged as the clear favourite of Series 15, earning an average reader score of 7.30 and comfortably outpacing the rest of the run. It’s hardly surprising. As a follow-up to the fan-favourite “Midnight“, the episode embraced what many see as Doctor Who at its finest, with a tense, claustrophobic atmosphere, and a strong blend of horror and science fiction.
That said, while “The Well” was the best received episode of the series, it’s worth noting that even its score of 7.30 doesn’t reach the highs regularly achieved by the show before 2018. In the pre-Chibnall years, it was more common to see highly-rated episodes pushing into the 8s and even 9s.
If Russell T Davies is looking for a takeaway from Series 15’s reception, it’s this: audiences are still very much here for more traditional Doctor Who storytelling. More episodes in this vein might just be what the show needs to win back hearts, and raise that series average.
2025 episodes Overall
With these results, the Series 15 average across all eight episodes is 5.86. This just falls short of Series 14’s average of 5.94, and, much like that series, remains noticeably below the stronger showings from earlier eras.
Despite “The Well” shining as a standout, the overall response to the series remains lukewarm. The numbers suggest Doctor Who is still struggling to consistently hit the mark with the fanbase.
To put this average into perspective (note: these figures are for post-air ratings and do not include specials):
- Series 11 – 6.70
- Series 12 – 6.62
- Series 13 – 6.30
- Series 14 – 5.94
- Series 15 – 5.86
The trend of gradual decline since 2018 continues. While “The Well” brought a welcome glimpse of what the show can still deliver, the wider series failed to rise above mediocrity. If Doctor Who is to regain its former stature, episodes will need to build on what worked here, and deliver that consistency across the board.
