Dalek Story Details for Series 8?

dwm-dalek-cover-2014NOTE: The following may contain spoilers, they may just be rumours. Read at your own discretion!

It has been rumoured for a while now that Peter Capaldi will face the Daleks early on in Series 8, specifically the second episode written by Phil Ford.

The latest teaser trailer seemingly added a lot of weight to their return with that oh-so-familiar voice (which we’re led to believe is voice regular Nicholas Briggs).

Now, according to the latest rumours, the 75-minute opener, Deep Breath, will be followed by a regular 45-minute episode entitled Into the Dalek.

The rumoured story, which fits the title, is that the Doctor and Clara will actually venture inside a Dalek! Think The Invisible Enemy but with a Dalek host ‘body’.

Bring as much salt as you feel necessary, but stranger things have happened.

Step back in time...

Inside a dalek body ?? surely that means a story featuring one dalek. Hope its as good as DALEK

75 mins for Deep Breath? Wow, I wish all episodes were like that! But, they may be too long to film.

After listening to all the Big finish ones, I doubt it will be as good as them.

Daleks again, Already. I hope they're not comedy Daleks this time :)

My only concern is that if Davros is returning, please let him still be played by julian bleach.

How about a new Dalek Emperor, if the story takes place on skaro the emperor dalek is effectively plugged into everything going on there

Going inside a Dalek? That would seem to suggest that the Davros voice may not be the physical Davros himself, but a memory fragment.

Whether or not "inside the Dalek" is to be taken literally or metaphorically is, I think, irrelevant. It's still an interesting concept

Doesn't that make Deep Breath the length of the 50th...

Hmmm- seems very JTTCOTT like. But more like inside a dalek than inside the TARDIS- its a great idea BBC- please make it more than a rumour.

I think this combines with the Davros returning. How amazing would it be to see Davros rising to take control of the Daleks once again, through Dalek eyes. Done right this could be amazing!

If Daleks are involved, it'd be interesting to see Clara's reaction to them. How much does she know about her splinter encounter?

If I'm completely honest I'm not happy we have another dalek encounter so soon. Just leave them for a series or two, it'll make capaldi facing them for the first time more epic.

That being said, if they are back this series, I really want Davros to return too.

It sound quite cool, actually. I wonder how it will/would be, domething metaphoric in the sense of going inside the Dalek's mind, getting miniaturised...

I think that if the Doctor and Clara are actually going to be going into a physical dalek whether its big or they become small the dalek in question I assume will have some importance if the title is "into the..." as opposed to "into a..."

Perhaps they're going inside the  enormous Dalek statue on Skaro. That would be behind enemy lines. ;)

Please let it be true that Deep Breath will be75 minutes long. Maybe it'll become a recurring thing for the opener if, perhaps, each series only has 12 episodes per series as opposed to 13 now. Or if not 75 minutes then maybe 60, like The Eleventh Hour.

this is just a rumour - it's hard to say "expect the unexpected" about the daleks - every TV story since 2005 has been a little bit of a let down. If you think "Dalek" was good, you should listen to "Jubilee", the 2004 audio drama by Robert Shearman about a lone Dalek. "Jubilee" makes the Daleks scary. And it makes people scared of the Dalek. Then there's the 'overuse' ... or is it misuse? A Dalek story every one or two seasons isn't bad - but they're the "Big Bad" of Series 1, 2, 4 and 5 (sort of), with an unnecessary return in "Time" [they were FANTASTIC in "Day" - at least, I thought they were. And in 3D!], so we've grown tired not of them appearing, but of their constant link to the story arc and defeat in the space of a half-minute (I'm looking at you, "Journey's End"!). So I hope Mr. Ford has written a Dalek story, and I hope he does something terrifying, like the very, very creepy "Waters of Mars". Yes, the Daleks lack the "jump scare" factor of the Weeping Angels and the visceral mobility of the Silence. But they are the Doctor's greatest enemies. And while (like the show itself) they are made into a joke by viewers, they are something very terrifying. An unstoppable killing machine. Deranged, paranoid ambition - total alien intelligence. We haven't seen that a lot on TV. The classic series had its moments, and Big Finish produces some incredible Dalek stories, but I'm really hoping I can see the New Paradigm or those incredible RTD Daleks have a real moment of terror - make the world remember that "WE ARE THE DALEKS! NO MAN IS OUR MASTER!" (Curse of the Daleks). And up against the much anticipated Capaldi? That would be great. Then they can rest. Go away for a season or two. I wouldn't mind, but let them go on a high. Not the lethargy of Asylum or the catastrophic failure of Journey's End. I think we should "expect the unexpected" - I think ... I hope Mr. Ford will do something really interesting with this one. And for the record - could that voice be the (highly enigmatic) Eternal Dalek?

I don't want the doctor and clara to be miniturised and it would be better if only clara wold go into the dalke and the others would try to help her escape.

I liked Behind Enemy Lines more than Into the Dalek as an episode title. It's not confirmed yet I know but still...

Wow... this sounds intriguing! I have faith in Phil Ford that it will be more "Dalek" than "Manhatten/Evolution" (as I just feel quite bored when I watch the latter).

Nick Briggs as Davros? YES PLEASE! :D

75 minute opener yet Matt Smith only had one hour Christmas special...

All sounds good though. Maybe the budget has gone into the actual episode rather than prequels and extras

@Polyphase To be fair, they haven't been done properly since... Dalek?

Yes. Oswin Oswald, the Dalek! She must be aware of that.

The Daleks may be aware...

You just totally reminded me how although we are all sick lf the overused daleks now we actually haven't seen them exterminate in years!

It's supposed to be.

For the record, Capaldi - life-long full-on Whovian - wanted to encounter a Dalek during his time as Doctor.

TardisBoy

Matt Smith also had a 75 minute anniversary special directly before the Christmas Special, and after the budget of said anniversary they probably could only afford a one hour special to end Matt's tenure - and even with only one hour to end Matt's era it was still a pretty fantastic episode.

Me and Stuff

@StephenAHayes Moffat has done this pretty much for most minisodes. With a few exceptions, all the minisodes have been just set in the TARDIS so he could spend the money on the main show.

@MatthewPaulOsborne @MetamorphmagusWho I was thinking that maybe Deep Breath is 75 minutes and episode 12 is 60 minutes- the spare time would give the finale time to wrap up in an epic way and make up for the 45 minutes we'll be missing because of the 12 episode run. Or they could have 12 episodes, 60 minutes each. Just a thought! :)

She did more or less remember all the Doctors so she might still remember snippets of her lives.

TheDoctorIsInDaHouse
TheDoctorIsInDaHouse

@TardisBoy The budget of the doctor-lite they no longer need in series 8 because of the 12 episode run could have gone into the opener.

Indeed, despite being but one hour in duration, Time got an incredible amount done and was fantastic to say the least! :D

Reminds me of Oswin Oswald's soufflés. A Dalek coincidence here?
