Coleman on Exit Rumours: “I don’t want to tell you the truth”

jenna-coleman-this-morning-aug-2014Jenna Coleman herself has responded to rumours that she will be leaving Doctor Who.

Speaking on This Morning today she, like Peter Capaldi yesterday, refused to confirm or deny: “The truth is I don’t want to tell you the truth because I quite like these rumours.

“I think it’s really interesting because suddenly people don’t know what is going to happen with the series, people don’t have any idea. So this speculation is quite good.

“I think people can now watch the show not knowing if I am or not and I think that is quite exciting.”

Step back in time...

I really hope she stays for some time more.

Talking of exit rumours - anyone read the Capaldi interview in DWM? He talks about the new look Tardis set and says "I think we'll keep this for next year" and then says that his only regret is that he knows one day he will have to leave the show! So much for the "he's only in it for one season" brigade...

I think Moffat should surprise us and never tell the truth about the rumours, it will make it more fun and exciting!

Anyone have the link to her interview?

I didn't know Tennant was leaving and Matt was the new Doctor. I was confused, thrilled, amazed, and really enjoyed that. I wish I hadn't known about Smith or the Ponds leaving. It would have had the same amazing impact that the new Doctor had the last time.  Why the BBC can't keep this secret or people want to spoil it for all of us is beyond me. Moffat and the actors are  not trolling, lying, or misleading us. They are trying to protect us and I thank them.

Great response. Love Jenna. ;)

Thanks, Jenna. Precisely what I have been saying. We've been hearing nonstop about #keepmespoilerfree and not reading scripts, but knowing that Clara leaves at the end of the series would be the biggest spoiler of all. I like the idea of no one knowing who lives or who dies. It gives the episode more excitement.

I actually kinda like that they aren't telling us. It gives us something to reeealllly look forward to find out by the end of the series

That's the answer Jenna! I really hope she stays and this has all been a case of desperate journalists looking for a story.

But the truth is...I can't bear the wait, I need to know!

I really hope she stays now. It'll hopefully kill all the "not denied, therefore true" logic stone dead for evermore.

I love Jenna but Iove that she's not telling us and I kind of hope that they continue with this trend of not telling us. Like one day we'll just be watching the show and Peter will regenerate and we're just sitting there like "......what?!"

Both Capaldi and Coleman seem to be learning the art of trolling from The Moff himself, Capaldi has learned surprisingly quickly I might say, his first episode still has to air and he is yet teasing and most probably lying to the fandom.

For those complaining about the non-response and refusal to say being "trolling" and the like - you clearly don't understand the term. Furthermore, if Moffat, Coleman and Capaldi all came out and said, yes, she's leaving in Christmas, the same people would then be complaining that this ruins the series suspense for them and why can't the production team keep secrets!!!

Personally, I think Jenna staying for Series 9 could work well as long as they keep things fresh. Look at most TV shows out there, you have characters that stick around for 3, 4, 5 seasons but that doesn't mean that they are getting old/ stale (FYI I don't think she should stay that long, maybe just for Series 9). It all depends on how she is used as a character, when this Series closes we'll know where Clara stands and whether it would be right for her to continue.

A lot of people feel that the Ponds outstayed their welcome, but perhaps most of that was because of the story they were given and the fact that they had a midseries break where a new companion was to be introduced. Clara has the advantage of this new Doctor, because it rejuvinates her character and completely changes her relationship with the Doctor. Add the fact that there is a larger emphasis on her personal life and her job at Cole Hill and you have a brilliant setup that could easily last more than one Series.

She's definitely leaving then.

What if the source of the rumours from an unspecified source was in fact a deliberate ploy to cast a shadow over the fate of Clara this series? Seems like something Moffat and co might do, using the tabloids as their puppets.

Even as I have typed this, people are captioning that pic of Jenna.

That is an absolutely beautiful response.  My hat is off to you, madam.  You know how to tease us fans exactly right.  ;-)  And you know how to preserve what's important - the experience of watching and going on an adventure of discovery with the Doctor in the TARDIS.  Thank you!

The look on Jenna's face is basically one of those looks Moffat always gives when he trolls the audience. I think he taught them both well.

I agree with her, it's more exciting not knowing.  Personally I wish they could somehow not announce even the Doctors leaving until we actually see it, but I realize there is no way to stop those leaks.  As to whether she should leave or not, well, can't really judge that for now.  I really like her as an actress and companion, but who knows where the story will go!  Perhaps it will be time for her to exit.

No! Jenna has gone over to the Troll Side! Curse you, Moffat! First, you claim Peter, and now Jenna!

Jenna has now joined Capaldi in Moffat's nicely brewing trolling bowl. The amount of tease is unbearable, but it adds to the fun of finding out what happens within the series...

@Paulb_47 How did you manage to miss the Tennant news? He made the announcement on live TV in the middle of an awards show, so it was hardly secret! I must say I don't sure the modern fan's preoccupation with spoilers and leaks - when I was growing up, a lot of story details were released, months before the show hit the air, with only the big surprises kept back, and it didn't really make any difference to my enjoyment of the show. In 1983, I read the Five Doctors novelisation before the ep was broadcast, but I still watched it and enjoyed it a lot, more than the book (which was pretty basic).

@JPatterson2 RTD did indicate that this is what they had hoped to do in Parting of the Ways but CE gave the game away months before! That would be a great surprise to pull off - just as long as it's not at the end of Deep Breath!

VERITASERUMUK
VERITASERUMUK

@JPatterson2 I agree - it makes it more exciting. When Tennant started to regenerate at the end of 'The Stolen Earth', I actually thought RTDs had pulled it off and cast a new Doctor in secret.

@simon delafield Right. it's certainly friendlier than trolling. "Deliberately tantalizing" perhaps. But that's not as pithy to say. :-) I called it trolling earlier, but that doesn't mean I don't love it.

@The Lazy Cat It could also be a negotiating ploy on her behalf.  She gets someone to "leak" to the Mirror that she is leaving, gambling that there will be an outcry against Clara leaving.  If there is a strong outcry then she is in a much stronger negotiating position.

The_Eternal_Dalek

@The Lazy Cat  It means she's getting a sadistic pleasure from torturing the fans over whether she is going or not. That's all we can tell.

@Xaven No, it sounds more like Jenna has discovered her inner Jack Nicholson.

Fan: "I want the truth!"
