New “Impossible, Logic-Defying” TARDIS Interior Teased
Collins revealed: “We talked through various concepts with Russell, and there was one rough idea that was just too ambitious, and too impossible – but which everybody loved.
“Once I’d put it in front of Russell, he’s just too visually bright to unsee it. I’d go, ‘Yes, yes, but it’s completely mad, it’s never going to happen.’ Then we started to say, ‘Okay, how do we make this impossible space possible?’
“So [production designer] Phil [Sims] brought in a brilliant engineer, who spent months trying to solve the engineering riddle of this impossible, logic-defying set, which no one in their right mind should ever have even drawn in the first place. But that kind of sums up the show…”
Last year, an image and footage purportedly showing an under-construction 14th Doctor’s (David Tennant) TARDIS leaked onto social media.
This leak was later confirmed to be legitimate when the BBC attempted to scrub the images and videos from the internet (and hence why DWTV can’t post it).
However, talented 3D artist, Harry Amatt later mocked up their own version and posted it to Twitter, and it’s very similar to the leaked version. The artist admits he had to interpret some parts, so lighting and so on may not be how it is in the show.
It is unclear whether this interior will carry over to the 15th Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and this is the “impossible” design referenced by the production team. However, you have to wonder whether they’d go to such lengths building an entirely new TARDIS for Tennant’s Doctor, who will use it for just 3 specials.
