Chibnall Knew Timeless Child Twist Would be Divisive, But Planned It From the Very Start
Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall has said that the controversial Timeless Child twist was planned from his earliest pitch meetings with the BBC.
Speaking to the Radio Times, Chibnall indicated that he always knew the storyline would be divisive: “When people were having opinions about the first female Doctor, I thought ‘well this is going to be interesting, because we haven’t even started yet!’”
He elaborated on his plans: “I knew from the start. And it was part of what I talked to Charlotte [Moore] and Piers [Wenger] about, just opening up the mythology to more stories.
“The purpose was to bring narrative opportunity and to be able to go to places that were shut off before now. That’s the big thing really.”
And Chibnall teases there’s more to come, but fans will “have to wait longer to see how it plays out”.
