Peter Harness Writing for Series 8?

capaldi-thumb-dvd

This is not the Peter you are looking for

So far all the announced writers for Series 8 have already written for Doctor Who before, but some new blood could be on the way.

Evidence is mounting that Peter Harness – writer of Wallander, Case Histories and the upcoming BBC adaptation of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell – is working on a script for the show.

It is unclear whether this will definitely make to Series 8. As we know from the past, scripts are prone to being shifted about.

Harness is a fan of the show. In a past interview he stated that he considered 2005’s The Parting of the Ways the “perfect end to what is I think the definitive series of Doctor Who.”

Harness would join Steven Moffat, Phil Ford, Mark Gatiss, Steve Thompson and Gareth Roberts in the line-up so far.

Step back in time...

I don't know his writing style.

I hope we get some new blood!

I would personally choose Sally Wainwright (Last Tango In Halifax) to write one - I am sure she'd be up to the task ... especially as some of them do have thriller related themes throughout and Sally knows how to nail emotion.

Too bad it's yet another man. Where are the good female writers? I'm sure they're out there, so why aren't they contacted or even considered or asked to write a trial script or something?

I hate the craze for female writers. If they can write a good script, then by all means go ahead- but don't choose authors for their gender, race, or beliefs. Choose them based on their scripts.

As female human being, I don't undestand this need for a female writer on the show no matter what... I'm sure that as soon as a good story for the show, written by a woman, comes up, it will be immediately considered.

Long as his scripts don't contain plot holes and end with crap timey wimey 'it never happened' conclusions!

It would be nice if they could find a few more female writers. I'm not saying pick a woman over someone who's a better writer and happens to be male, but there have been so few female writers that it would be nice to have some more.

I don't know any of his works, but the newbies always bring nice things.

It would be so cool if one of US got to write an episode. But I think we'd take it OTT xD

I think this article may be attracting some Venetian Vampires. Lot of talk about blood going on...

Always good to see some fresh blood writing for the show!

Sweet. Now if only we could get some new female writers..

For a moment I thought that headline was talking about a new head-writer. I got all excited for a moment...

I would like Matthew Graham to come back. Yeah, Fear her was awful, but I really liked Rebel flesh/Almost people. Also, he did write create Life on Mars and Ashes to ashes.

The show NEEDS new writers. Badly. Giving Gatiss two stories isn't fair, thus, despite writing only one decent thing that was DW-related in these last few years, and that being Adventures in Space and Time.

speaking of new writers I do wonders sometimes if Stephen Fry will ever write for who as he almost had an episode in series 2

His previous work is pretty good, and he has fine taste in RTD finales. Why not?

I hope the two Orphan Black creators someday have the time and interest in writing a Doctor Who episode.  Their show, with its improbably plot twists, memorable characters and humor, has a lot in common with DW.

I really liked Wallander, so this sounds good to me.

@shyx111 Absolutely nobody is saying there is a need for a female writer "no matter what".  In fact, the comment by twoheartsonemind right before yours explicitly says "I'm not saying pick a woman over someone who's a better writer".  What people are saying is that there are talented women writers out there and that it would be great for the show to have one of those talented women write an episode.

@twoheartsonemind  Being Human had some excellent female writers like Lisa McGee, Lucy Catherine, Sarah Phelps, Sarah Dollard who's written episodes for Merlin and Primeval! I love to see any of these writers working on Doctor Who!

Vanessa Taylor who writes for Game of Thrones she'd be pretty gnarly or Zoe Kazan

@The_Doctor_  Phil Ford is writing Episode Two. RTD, on the other hand, I'm not sure is ready to return - his Wizards vs Aliens story last year was a bit of a rehash of The Parting of the Ways. Give him a few more years away and he may be ready to come back and write an episode or two.

@Bert_Macklin  Agreed completely, especially as a female fan of the show who prefers the majority of female companions compared to a few of the Doctors ...

@Calebxy  Must someone hate on Moffat in every article? Really this has nothing to do with if you like Moffat or not

Yes... A near-completed version of that script exists on a hard drive somewhere right now - which is an awesome thought! They'll probably print it 50 years from now, Shada style.

Now I'm imagining some dark, hellfire club style meeting of all the Who writers led by Moffat as they induct a new member through a series of age old rituals.

@Amy the Consulting Key Ring  Neil Gaiman, Simon Nye, Richard Curtis, Neil Cross and Steven Thompson have all written episodes under Moffat but not RTD, all other Moffat writers have written under RTD aswell. I don't see your argument.

@TheBiPunishment Compared to the original Swedish show it's okay, but I recommend watching the original if you can find it with subtitles.

I don't personally think that was Caleb's intention, he really is a big Moffat fan - based on his past comments, at least.

That would be great. She and the Doctor could spend a whole season looking for her seestra and eating jello.
