Capaldi is Not the Doctor!

capaldi-andersonThe BBC have today announced some huge news for Series 8.

In one of the most surprising plot twists in Doctor Who history Capaldi is not actually the Doctor. Fans will learn in Series 8 that he will instead be playing the latest incarnation of the Doctor’s arch-nemesis, the Master. Capaldi’s Master has in fact just assumed the Doctor’s identity, fooling everyone around him including Clara.

So who is playing the real 12th Doctor? Well we’ve already been introduced to him – Samuel Anderson. Anderson was previously announced to be playing Coal Hill School teacher Danny Pink, however this is actually another alias for the Chameleon-Arched Doctor, much like in Human Nature.

In a press statement Anderson said: “I’m thrilled to be taking on the iconic role of the Doctor and I can’t wait to spar with Peter Capaldi!”

Steven Moffat said: “Try as we might we knew we couldn’t keep this a secret from the fans! The cat was out of the bag as soon as Samuel was spotted wearing the Doctor’s spacesuit. Though I’m surprised people bought into Capaldi being the Doctor in the first place. You don’t cast an actor like him as the Doctor. Just look at those eyes. They are pure evil!”

Reports are coming in that Capaldi is growing his beard in preparation for pivotal scenes filming shortly.

I love how everyone is commenting 'Fake look at the date' etc. Erm... Have you heard of a double bluff before? Clearly not. Let me explain...'Double Bluff' -Noun- 'An action or statement that is intended to appear as a bluff but is in fact genuine.' You can tell by the way Capaldi has been acting he is not 'The Doctor'. He has been acting completely different to all the other doctors and when that guy died inside the Dalek he didn't even care... The actual doctor would of been an emotional wreck as he cherishes all forms of life. Danny Pink showed more emotion than in 5 seconds than Capaldi has in 2 episodes. Plus it's about time they had a different race as the doctor don't you think? Stop being so shallow and consider the facts and remember Moffat loves to write crazy plot twists.

It's been 10 years since they started filming the new series.  It's time for a new dynamic.  Peter Capaldi is brilliant, and will be a fantastic Doctor.  And there are many, many of us who are glad he's taken the role. If you're not one of them, well, no one is forcing you to watch.

when dw first started they had actors who were older, and they were great i had  a crush on Tom Baker and then he was older than me. I think its the fans who only want young hot Doctors who complain about Peter. I think he will be a great doctor and this April fool was really great

Ha, that's funny, people actually think Moffat would tell the fans anything?

The last 3 doctors in the classic were not what you would call old, it was not down to the age of the actors that caused the cancellation it was the quality of the  scripts some were beyond ridiculous.

You may not realise it but this type of idea has actually been done before - in the Doctor Who Magazine comic strip in the 1990s! At the end of The Final Chapter (1998), the Eighth Doctor surprisingly regenerates into a new incarnation that vaguely resembles actor, writer and Dalek artiste Nick Briggs! In the subsequent story Wormwood, it is revealed that the regeneration was a hoax - that the Eighth Doctor is alive and well and that the character we thought was the Doctor was his ally Shayde who has shapeshifting powers and faked the regeneration! At the time of the so-called "regeneration", I remember some fans going ballistic, accusing DWM in its letters pages of going over the top by regenerating McGann's Doctor in the absence of a TV series and less than two years after his on-screen debut! Nick Briggs recalled at a convention I attended last year that he even avoided some irate fans for a little while!

capaldi will be an amazing doctor, I mean come on, you guys gave a 20-something year old the chance.. so why not let a 55 year old, with better experience and who is obviously a better actor have a go, I mean are you guys forgetting that the majority of the doctors have been around this age

You're stupid if you think Capaldi won't make a great Doctor.

When I see Capaldi I remember Neverwhere and his character as the evil angel Islington. I see malcolm tucker from The Thick of it. The edgy Barthomley from This Justice, and everyones favourite evil cardinal from the Musketeers.

I am looking forward to the next series.

Obvious april fools is obvious, but it does bring up a good point: no one actually seems to "want" capaldi as the doctor. John Hurt was perfect as the war doctor, but do we really want 2-3 seasons/years of an older doctor? I warmed to the idea. especially if they cast a good master, but when the christmas special was concluded my reaction was "meh".

Bummer this isn't real. Sorry, but after seeing Capaldi as the coward who lacked the balls to stand up to the government and the 456, ultimately killing his wife, children & self, in season 3 of Torchwood; AND as another dad who cowers in a corner with his family, waiting to die at Pompeii, before Donna convinces the Doctor to save them... That's all I see. A gutless, sniffling coward.

Sorry, Dr Who writers, but you set the character... I am not looking forward to the new season with this dude as the Doctor.

I will, of course, give it the benefit of doubt. I'll give a capaldi a shot, but I have a feeling this is the end of Dr Who.

(Capaldi would make a great Master though. Perhaps the best April Fool's joke would be to to make this story not a joke!)

I was prepared for it this year like I was every other year since DoctorWhoTVs first April Fools article back in 2010 when they announced the Kandyman would be returning for the scene in the Pandorcia Chamber hahahah. This one was, like all other years, very well written and the way they made it fit in with recent casting and filming pictures was surprisingly clever. If I wasn't prepared for it, you defiantley would have had me DoctorWhoTV!

I read it this morning, not knowing the date, and thought I was going to need to start an anti-Doctor Who group. Then I scrolled down to the comments to other people's reactions when I realists what day it was.

on another site they said Arthur Darvill was going to be the new master

I still haven't forgiven you guys for your 2012 April Fool's when you announced that "the next Doctor will be a woman". I was at school and practically started having a panic attack on the floor, my friend had to calm me down and explain it was a joke.

Is it sad I kind of want this to be true? That would be such an amazing plot twist!!

A really good april fools joke is one that is at least a possibility. Nice try though :)

I saw it and thought, "oh, I'll read this year's April Fools joke!" So I didn't fall for it.

Though it would be quite a cool plot twist, except that Peter looks exceptional. But the doctor "regenerates," but was actually just teleported out by the Master, who came through the crack on Trenzalore. He forces the doctor into the Chameleon Arch, and drops him of with a random identity. It would make a good episode!

Ha ha! I love how so many people are assuming this is a joke!

I'm genuinely sad that this is not a real thing - it does sound like such an amazing idea. Canon problems would ensue and my head would hurt from trying to make sense of it but it would be cool.

I usually check DWTV early in the morning with my first cup a joe. I didn't quite realize what day it is. I was super teed off. Mostly cause I'm so built up for Mr. Capaldi. I was ready to burn the world. Then it dawned on me. DWTV got me.

Congratulations! The most obvious April Fools joke I've seen today! But the joke is on you, Capaldi would make a great Master.

B+ for effort though.

This would actually have been an amazing plot twist to be honest. And it would have been funny, as a bunch of people said AFTER Capaldi had been cast that they would have been okay with a black guy in the role, would have been interesting to see their reaction, had this been true!

@CoolCollings go check out some sixth doctor episodes and ask your self again if Capaldi has been "acting different to all the other doctors"

Also, just because the Doctor used the soldiers death to his advantage doesn't mean that he didn't care. There was nothing he could do about it, so he might as well use the opportunity to save everyone else.

I have faith in Capaldi. So should you.

isaktheviking

you can all force yourselves to like him as much as you want, but that doesn't change the fact that it shifts the dynamic of the show from that which has worked since the relaunch >you are now aware that doctor who was off air for quite some time after the last era of "old men" stopped being entertaining.

DamianChristie
DamianChristie

@isaktheviking  What a ridiculous statement! Boy, what is it with today's generation of younger fans that they think the Doctor has to be sexy or young to have street cred! Peter Capaldi is actually quite young by today's standards, compared to when William Hartnell took on the role (being in the mid-50s in the 1960s was considered old!). You should also not judge an actor - especially one as brilliant as Capaldi - on their age. I think you'll find Capaldi's performance will be more energetic and youthful than you give him credit for!

DamianChristie
DamianChristie

@sarabunker22  Sorry but you're judging Capaldi on his past Doctor Who/Torchwood performances in completely different roles before you've even seen him in a full episode as the Doctor! And as for this being the end of Doctor Who, what utter rubbish! This is just the beginning - of a whole new regeneration cycle - and potentially 13 more Doctors! I suggest you watch more of Capaldi's work to see the range of actor he is before you make such ridiculous statements about him being a "gutless, sniffling coward"! God knows what you would have thought of David Tennant's Doctor if you'd judged his performance solely on his appearance as Casanova!

KingOrokos
KingOrokos

@sarabunker22 Are you joking? It's not that difficult to seperate an actor from a character. Have you seen Capaldi in The Musketeers, where he oozes sinister charisma and manipulates people to suit his whims in a way which would make the Seventh Doctor proud? How about in The Thick of It, where he portrays a violently manic and ingenious political advisor? Being able to play a coward one minute and a hero the next is what makes Capaldi such a versatile and talented actor, and is just one of the many reasons why I think his era as the Doctor will be one of the show's finest.

kidneysagain

@sarabunker22  In that case I might recommend you to watch his other roles to correct that. The guy _does_ have range and experience outside DW, after all. :P

@Silurian53 Have you seen the one on Kasterborous about the new 4 legged companion Fuzz-e? I thought it was pretty funny :)

Romanadvoratrelundar
Romanadvoratrelundar

@Silurian53 Agreed, but this year I actually tried to guess what the April Fool's might be. I thought maybe they'd announce that for whatever reason Capaldi can no longer play the Doctor, and they're now looking for another actor. The first episode will be a McGann-style epic where Twelve has an adventure and then regenerates :P

Marianastrenchlover1
Marianastrenchlover1

@isaktheviking both Chris and David were getting up there. David was something like 18 years younger when he started and Chris was about 12, Matt was the only really young one. You're basing most of this on matt being 26 when he started.

Marianastrenchlover1

@DamianChristie @isaktheviking I really don't get this stereotype that all younger whovians are against an older doctor.I'm 15 and I can't wait to see capaldi be the doctor. I don't care how old someone is, if they think a 55 year old is to old to play a 1800 year old timelord, they should rethink their life choices.

chmul67
chmul67

Yeah, everybody knows that. Something like 1000 years. But what is the use of regeneration if the result is such an old looking guy? I mean, he is supposed to be adventurous, travel thru space and time. Besides, he looks evil and wasted.

They should at least find a companion for him that looks 50+ too. But I suppose nobody would want to watch the show anymore then ....

So it comes to this: young girls for male fans, old man for female fans. This sucks.
