BBC Breakfast apparently aired a longer version of this interview (about 9 minutes) that you can find online. There's a bit more to the interview, but more importantly, it's re-edited so there's no talking over the new clips. (The Dalek says, "Doctor, will you help me?"). AND the "I'm his carer clip is a bit longer and more fantastic.

"The younger end of what is essentially a kids show". Okay, that BBC News reporter is a complete idiot. Even if he may not have done the research, if he's British, then he should know that Doctor Who is not a kids show. Doctor Who is a family show. There is a massive difference.

Now, onto the positivity. That clip from Episode 2 was amazing! The Doctor's line carer line was absolutely hilarious, and full of wit. I can't wait for the new series to start!

I say that people are good actors a lot, but when I say that (just from what I've seen in these short clips) Peter Capaldi is a fantastic actor, I have never meant it more. Also, he must have one of the coolest grins ever - look at 1:03 in the interview!

"We don't consider the Wizard of Oz to be too old, we don't consider Father Christmas to be too old... these are mythical, magical characters."

Capaldi, sir, I have run out of ways to express my admiration for you. I might just start praising you.

I was a bit worried about the whole "dark Doctor" angle, but these clips have completely dispelled that. I'm sure Capaldi will be a great Doctor! Hopefully the witty one liners won't be too common, but overall no real complaints. Well, apart from this one: worries about Capaldi was the only thing making the wait until the 23rd tolerable! Now I have nothing! Nooooooooo!

His Doctor will be brilliant! His reaction after Clara told him that she doesn't know if he's a good man- loved it!

looks like a subtle performance...not the over the top like the previous doctors. Interesting.

From these clips I almost think Capaldi is going to be a very depressed doctor.... that's kind of sad :(

That clip with the captive Dalek reminds me of Christopher Eccleston's encounter in the episode titled "Dalek"

I don't even see Peter Capaldi as "old". He has such a young way about him Good luck Sir!

Having seen the interview in full now I must say it reaches new depths even for the increasingly poor bbc news - "elderly" Doctor - at 55. I mean, really? PC shows remarkable restraint and the interviewer can consider himself lucky he didn't get a Glaswegian Kiss.

So did this Dalek turned good thus allowing people to go inside to find some kind of secret?

I cringe when people call its a kid show.

I know people keep saying that the line is "his morality has malfunctioned," but I keep hearing "morality as malfunction"... which to me sounds like a much more Doctor Who type line.  Very conceptual....

Damn, this Doctor is sassy. Could you imagine him with Donna? They would literally never leave the TARDIS or get anything done other than bicker back and forth with brilliant banter.

"I think there's a deeper well of love in the show now, that was only touched upon in the earlier shows. I think the Doctor loves Clara in a very deep way that is not just about romance, so it goes into a deeper territory of affection"

N'aww Capaldi if there was any way you could make me more excited, it was that. Its really quite heart warming that their relationship is so strong. Makes me want both of them to stay forever!

I think Peter Capaldi has taught me a valuable lesson in life that even though the things you used to have (David and Matt) may have been awesome, new and very different things (Peter), can be just as good if not better and we have to embrace them so we can have fun! I used to be afraid that such a change would ruin the show, but just after seeing all the new trailers, I am already in love with the new Doctor.

"She cares so I don't have to." Man, Capaldi is shaping up to be the honey badger of the Doctors.

I think Capaldi just spilled charisma all over the set.

Scripts might be bad, but every actor who has been The Doctor has done an excellent job because their excellent actors, to dismiss any them means your not a real Whovian.                                                                                                                                                                              No actor who has been The Doctor is inferior to another.

Well I've now sent in a complaint, hopefully Lizo Mzimba and his researcher are able to get basic facts right next time, or else not bother reporting with factual inaccuracies.

@ahunter8056  Got to agree, it's one of my pet hates. Calling it a 'kids show' implies that it is solely for kids, yet the majority of fans are older than 10, surely. It has always been a family show, and when you look at it's spin-offs, it's evident; SJA was for the younger viewers, Torchwood for the older viewers, and Doctor Who was the one in the middle, the all-rounder for everyone. I'm not saying that kids shouldn't watch it, far from it, it's how I started watching, but Doctor Who is for everyone, regardless of age. I have always said that Doctor Who is not a kids show; it is a show that is suitable for kids.

@DrWhoBoy123 Sorry but I really don't miss all the theatrics and silly hand waving gestures. Always felt that Smiths Doctor, when upset or angry, was just a child throwing a tantrum. Each to their own of course, but it's time for a more earthed Doctor with some weight behind his emotions.

Okay, sorry everyone about the overreaction (I've almost calmed down now). But Capaldi's acting in these clips is so good ! The way he waits for Clara's answer and then his reaction to her "I don't know"... I knew he was good, but seeing it, even in a very small clip, after all this anticipation, is something else. And it's not only him ! The exact scene I just described,  "She cares so I don't have to", a dalek that has turned good... They really chose the good clips to make me very, very excited for series 8. (something else entirely, but can someone explain to me how to make several paragraphs in a comment ?... sorry)

@LoneRangerNinjutsu I was thinking the other day literally how much id love Donna to come back and be Capaldi's companion. It'll never happen and it'd probably ruin her character but still....

@Petyr Cupalldy Many "New-Who" fans that are still discovering the show are learning about the paradigm shift that happens when a new actor takes the role. Us older farts from classic are used to it and we know its just a passing shock and will pass very quickly before settling in to the new style. That's not to say everyone will eventually like every incarnation but it's realizing that at first, it's just the change itself that people are uncomfortable with, not the actor. It's sad when I see people raging at PC and saying they are boycotting the show (which I don't believe anyway). So congrats to you for taking the high road!

@Petyr Cupalldy I'm glad you have a more positive view of change. After all as a  fairly new whovian (I've only been one for 2 years) that this show thrives on it. It's why things are always new. If anything change is this shows greatest strength.

@Roq777 @DrWhoBoy123 I found that Matts Doctor was actually very serious at times and at first it seems like hes very silly but then you realise that he actually is a lot more serious.

TheWibblyLever

@TheDaleksDaughter @TheWibblyLever There was some other line that I keep trying to remember... I think during the Tennant era... he says something conceptual about "___ as ___".  Maybe one during Smith's run too...?  Bleh.  It'll come to me at some point...

@Scootersfood @Cyruay Well, there can be (I think we've had a few of them in the last 7 series) but... a good actor will be able to get the best out of them and make it worthwhile... it won't necessarily work the other way around, though, but I don't think we've so far really had that problem on DW or in the Whoniverse in general.
