Series 13 Brings Back Classic Look for Sontarans
Doctor Who Magazine has officially revealed the Sontarans and how they will look in Series 13.
Chris Chibnall explained their return: “The Sontarans are strange, dark and funny. There’s a great psychology behind them, like so many of Robert Holmes’ creations.
“There’s a real humour to them, but they’re not ridiculous. They’re highly focused and mission-driven, and in their actions they can be really dangerous. You’ll find that the Sontarans pose quite a threat in this series.”
Costume designer Ray Holman worked with prosthetics expert Danny Marie Elias on the new look. Holman said: “The spin we needed for Series 13 was to make them look more warfaring,”
“I went right back to the classic Sontaran designs. I did research into what they used to look like, and thought it would be great to reference the various designs that have gone in the past.
“The 2008 Sontarans are gorgeous, but the scripts we’re working with are about war and battlefields. These Sontarans should be down-and-dirty warmongers in the mud, conquering the universe.
Twitter users have of course already shared the images online:
