Dominic the Doctor

When that sad but inevitable day comes that Matt Smith leaves Doctor Who, it’s good to know that there’s no shortage of actors looking to take on the role next.

The latest to express interest is Dominic Monaghan. Those of you who were fans of TV show Lost will recognise him as character Charlie Pace, or if not, as hobbit Merry in The Lord of the Rings. He’s currently battling bugs in docu-series Wild Things.

Monaghan told MTV Geek: “I’d like to play Doctor Who. I think I could do a pretty good effort… “

“I grew up with Sylvester McCoy and Peter Davison and those type of Doctors. I always found them to be relatively quirky, but also possessing a curiosity and a drive and need to understand things. I relate to aspects of that and have always wanted to have a crack at playing the Doctor.

“If I was young enough and it ever became available I think I’d like to give it a go.”

Having worked with director Peter Jackson on The Lord of the Rings, he also gave his thoughts on Jackson possibly directing an episode of Doctor Who.

“I don’t think he could go and direct something like Doctor Who without it being a huge piece of event television. He’s certainly a fan of the show and he knows his stuff.”
