It was close, but once again, a Steven Moffat-penned story ultimately rated higher than every other episode of the run. This trend, we saw during Russell T. Davies’ first era, continues into his second! However, while the result is respectable on its own, it still ranks among the lesser contributions when compared to Moffat’s other episodes.
Series 14 Overall
With these results, the Series 14 average for all eight episodes is 5.94. This is, sadly, another disappointing result for Doctor Who. The second Davies era showed some promise at the start with the 60th anniversary specials, but it has quickly dropped back down to a level where even the three series of the divisive Chibnall era scored higher series averages.
Comparing the post-air rating results, Series 11’s average was 6.70, Series 12’s was 6.62, and Series 13’s was 6.30. Therefore, according to DWTV voters, the show has been on a consistent decline since 2018. So RTD really needs to step up his game next year.
