Quotes

The Doctor: “I can feel it… the turn of the earth. The ground beneath our feet is spinning at a thousand miles an hour. The entire planet is hurtling around the sun at sixty seven thousand miles an hour. And I can feel it. We’re falling through space, you and me, clinging to the skin of this tiny little world. And, if we let go…”

The Doctor: “You lot. You spend all your time thinking about dying, like you’re going to get killed by eggs, or beef, or global warming, or asteroids. But you never take time to imagine the impossible. Like maybe you survive.”

The Doctor: “Oh she’s not my wife.”
Jabe: “Partner?”
The Doctor: “No.”
Jabe: “Concubine?”
The Doctor: “Nope.”
Jabe: “Prostitute?”
Rose Tyler: “Whatever I am, it must be invisible – do you mind? Tell you what – you two go and pollenate – I’m gonna catch up with the family…”
Cassandra: “You could be flatter. You’ve got a little bit of a chin poking up.”
Rose: “I’d rather die.”
Cassandra: “Honestly, it doesn’t hurt.”
Rose: “I mean it, I would rather die. It’s better to die than live like you, a bitchy trampoline.”

The Doctor “Everything has its time and everything dies.”

The Doctor: “You think it’ll last forever. The people, and cars, and concrete. But it won’t. Then one day it’s all gone. Even the sky.”

Rose: “What happened to your people?”
Doctor: “I’m a Time Lord. I’m the last of the Time Lords. They’ve all gone. I’m left travelling on my own because there’s no one else.”
Rose: “There’s me.”

Notes

This episode takes place in the year 5, 000, 000, 000.

This episode features a pre-credit sequence. This happens on every episode thereafter.

This was the most expensive episode of the series as it contains so many CGI shots.

The Doctor reveals he is the last of the Time Lords.

This is the first time ‘Bad Wolf’ is mentioned (though some think the Nestene utters it in Rose). The Moxx of Balhoon says “Indubitably, this is the bad wolf scenario.” The phrase ‘Bad Wolf’ features in almost every episode throughout the series in some form or other.

The music played in this episode is ‘Tainted Love’ by Soft Cell and ‘Toxic’ by Britney Spears.

Despite Cassandra’s apparent death, Zoe Wannamaker will reprise the character in the second series episode, ‘New Earth’.

The first appearance of The Face of Boe. He will have an important role in series two and three.
