Your Verdict on Knock Knock & Episode Ranking
Joshua Yetman reveals what DWTV readers made of the fourth episode of Series 10.
Series 10 is now well into its stride, and, after three well received episodes from returning writers, the fourth episode of Series 10 injected some fresh blood into proceedings with the debut of Mike Bartlett. It’s now time to dissect how his horror themed contribution – Knock Knock – faired amongst the critical clicks of DWTV’s fans community.
Knock Knock: Stat Rundown
- Once again, just over four thousand of you voted in the poll, and the average score was 7.487. This is yet another average score in the 7/10 range, an interval which every Series 10 episode so far has fallen into. It once again signifies an episode that is certainly well received and regarded communally as being far from bad, but is still far from being considered a classic. The score of 7.487 was a step up from last week, so Series 10 has so far gone down, then up, then down again (and will probably go up again next week!).
- The average score of 7.487 implies that Knock Knock is the 75th highest rated episode of the revival. For context, the 76th highest rate episode is Rose (7.485) and the 74th is Planet of the Ood, so it’s hardly in contemptible territory. That said, this is still firmly the median ground of the revival.
- The standard deviation of this episode – which is our measure of how divisive an episode is – was 1.873. Taken at face value, this is yet another low standard deviation, but it indicates that this is the most divisive episode of the series so far (second place goes to The Pilot, with a standard deviation of 1.715). It’s still a generally low figure, however; overall, it is the 58th least divisive episode in the revival, and is on par with A Good Man Goes to War and The Snowmen in terms of divisiveness.
- Overall, then, Series 10 continues to be hugely consistent and mostly free of controversies and sources of contention. That said, the episodes remain firmly in the ‘good’ tier, and a true classic is yet to emerge. Contrast this to Series 9, where the first four episodes all scored above 8.
Series 10 Ranking

The average score of the series to date is 7.560, a result which means Series 10 (as it stands so far) is the sixth highest rated series of the revival.
