Story Details

Official synopsis:

Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. And amongst them – the Doctor. Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe.

Other notes:

The 11th Doctor’s final episode and the introduction of the 12th Doctor. Matt Smith said that a return trip to Trenzalore is on the cards. Moffat said many of the loose ends from the 11th Doctor’s era will be wrapped up: “Never mind the TARDIS blowing up, what about the endless, bitter war Kovarian was on about? And what’s Trenzalore? And the oldest question in the universe? And what exactly do they mean, silence will fall?”

On the regeneration Moffat said: “It’ll be the traditional regeneration. You know, the eleventh will fall and the twelfth shall rise. And you’ll see that in the closing moments of the show.”
