Series 6 Primer: The Silence
Last year, we were introduced to ‘The Silence’ story arc. With Series 6 now just days away, let’s take a look back and remind ourselves of the key scenes.
The Eleventh Hour
Prisoner Zero foretold the cracks in time and warned the Doctor, ‘Silence will fall.’
The cracks in the skin of the universe – don’t you know where they came from? You don’t, do you? The Doctor and the TARDIS doesn’t know. The universe is cracked. The Pandorica will open. Silence will fall.
The Vampires of Venice
Rosanna Calvierri said that her race saw “Silence and the end of all things” through some of the cracks in time.
Doctor: “Why are you here?”
Rosanna: “We ran from the Silence.”
Doctor: “The Silence?”
Rosanna: “There were cracks. Some were tiny, some were as big as the sky. Through some we saw worlds and people. And through others we saw silence…and the end of all things. We fled to an ocean like ours and the crack snap shut behind us. Saturnyne was lost.”
The Doctor then witnessed what appeared to be silence falling over 16th-century Venice as he was preparing to leave in the TARDIS.
The Pandorica Opens / The Big Bang
The TARDIS began to explode after the Silence somehow took control of it. Before the explosion, a strange voice was heard saying “Silence will fall” as the console screen cracked.
A Christmas Carol
In Abigail’s song, the word silence is in the opening lyrics. Just a coincidence, or is there more to it?
When you’re alone, silence is all you see.
When you’re alone, silence is all you’ll be.
Give me your hand and come to me.When you are here, music is all around.
When you are near, music is all around.
Open your eyes, don’t make a sound.Let in the shadow, let in the shadow,
Let in the light of your bright shadow.Let in the shadow, let in the shadow.
Let in the light of your bright shadow.
