RTD Says The Giggle Will Reveal “Controversial New Doctor Who Mythology”
Russell T Davies certainly doesn’t seem afraid of upsetting the apple cart at the start of his new era. First, we had the Davros news, and now he’s hinting at something coming in this weekend’s special that sounds like it could be on par with the Timeless Child reveal.
He explained in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine (#598): “There will be controversial events in [“The Giggle”]. If you listen and watch the commentary on the iPlayer, I unroll a whole new Doctor Who mythology for you, based around the events taking place. And I’m explaining this to David Tennant and his mind is exploding.”
He continues: “That commentary will have absolutely exclusive information that will rock the world. I hope you’ll all find it fascinating. It’s a whole new way of looking at the history of Doctor Who and I can’t wait to see the reaction.”
RTD isn’t done there, either. In the Radio Times he spoke about the Christmas special and Series 14 introducing much more fantasy to Doctor Who. He said: “The show is taking a sly step towards fantasy, which will annoy people to whom it’s a hard science-fiction show.”
He adds: “Episode two next year is wildly fantasy. Completely making up scenarios on screen that we’ve never been able to show before.”
Let’s hope for RTDs sake, that all these big changes pay off.
