Gatiss Confirms Two Capaldi Eps, Hints at Jane Austen Story
“I am writing for Peter Capaldi. In fact, two episodes,” he said to Cbnfoz.
Gatiss has written six episodes since Doctor Who came back in 2005. There was The Unquiet Dead, The Idiot’s Lantern, Victory of the Daleks and Night Terrors in the first, second, fifth and sixth series respectively. Most recently he contributed Cold War and The Crimson Horror for Series 7. He also was behind the warmly-received 50th anniversary docudrama An Adventure in Space and Time.
Gatiss is best known for his historical episodes. At the recent Brazil Q&A he hinted that novelist Jane Austen may be the next historical figure to feature: “One of the things which new Doctor Who sort of invented was the idea of a celebrity historical – Charles Dickens, Agatha Christie, Winston Churchill, Shakespeare. There’s three writers there so I think Jane Austen stands quite a quite a good chance actually…
He adds: “I’m not quite sure what the adventure would be. Maybe an alien posing as Mr Darcy.”
UPDATE: Mark Gatiss has clarified on Twitter: “I’ve been commissioned to write two episodes of ‘Doctor Who’. That doesn’t mean they’ll both necessarily be in this season.”
