Series 10 Teaser Trailer Breakdown: “A Time for Heroes”
This weekend’s “A Time for Heroes” teaser trailer for Doctor Who Series 10 (watch here if you missed it) doesn’t offer a great deal to analyse compared to the more traditional trailers made up of clips from episodes, but there are still a few interesting things to note.
Taking place entirely in a library (likely belonging to the university Bill and the Doctor are working at), the trailer is narrated by our new companion:
“The first time you meet him, he’s funny.”
“The second time, he’s amazing.”
“The third time, you realise he’s the most dangerous man in the universe.”
Flipping the next clip and zooming into the shelf we notice several titled books:
- “The Pilot”
- “Smile”
- “Thin Ice”
- “Knock Knock”
- “Oxygen”
Given what we know about the episode stories so far, these could very well be the titles of the first five as they match up. Though episode 1 was previously reported to be “A Star in Her Eye”. Perhaps a late change, which isn’t unheard of.
Hopefully Nardole will offer more than just comic relief in his extended role this year.
“He says he’s a man of peace, but he walks in war.”
As we see, the Doctor’s war is in fact on the evil lighting.
“I’m having the time of my life – and I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
“Even if it kills me…”
It’s a little unfortunate that the new companion’s life is already being teased as under threat, especially given Series 9 used the same promotional trick with Clara.
Monsters we can identify for sure in the final scenes are: a Cyberman, a Dalek, an Emojibot, a Truth Monk, and an Ice Warrior.
Possibilities for other returning foes include: a Weeping Angel or Axons. But this is just speculation. The remaining are trickier to identify and more likely newer foes such as the wooden creature seen in the first trailer.
Though not dissimilar to the divisive Silurian design of Series 5, writer Mark Gatiss did tease a new type of Ice Warrior for his episode this year. Perhaps an Ice Queen?
