Doctor Who has scooped both of the awards it was nominated for at the 2010 National Television Awards earlier tonight.

Doctor Who reigned supreme against Casualty, The Bill and Shameless for Best Drama. David Tennant left the acceptance speech to Bernard Cribbins (Wilfred) who said, “This is absolutely wonderful and I know how pleased [David] must be, because he’s been at it for four years.”

Meanwhile, David Tennant fought off competition from David Jason, David Threlfal and Philip Glenister to win Best Drama Performance. Tennant accepted the award and said, “The whole thing exceeded my expectations, and that’s due in no small part to the incredible audience that we’ve enjoyed. Thank you all so much, thank you for watching, thank you for tuning in.”

Congratulations to David and the Doctor Who team!
