Tom Riley on his Series 8 Role & Capaldi

Actor Tom Riley has spoken a little about his upcoming guest role in Doctor Who Series 8.

Riley said that filming on his episode (the third of the run) is continuing this week, but wouldn’t be drawn on who is playing (see filming reports for a good idea).

He told Flicks and the City: “I can’t tell you [what character I'm playing]. The photos are out there and people are putting together what they think I might be playing. It’s just one episode but it’s a really fun and it’s written by Mark Gatiss, so we’re in good hands.

On working with Capaldi he said: “I think Peter’s going to completely revitalise the show -- not that it needed revitalising -- but he’s going to bring something completely different to the Doctor. When you change a lead actor, everything’s going to change, but you can rest assured he’s going to absolutely smash it!”

He's obviously The Master in disguise.

At first when peter capldi was rumoured, I was like no, then when he was announced I was like, ffs! Then when the first filming pics and vids of him came out I was like, not too bad, but now, I am looking forward to it, I'm hoping IMHO it doesn't go too far down the classic route,

I'm getting more and more excited for Peter Capaldi's Doctor as time goes on. Man, this is going to be a long summer.

Really looking forward to Capaldi. Tennant was my favourite and I loved Smith but I think it's time for a change, someone older.

I'm excited for Capaldi. Really, I am. Not seeing Matt as the Doctor is going to break my heart, but I know that Twelve is going to be amazing and I'm determined to keep an open mind. This episode in particular looks really exciting, I just hope that Gatiss can deliver - everyone seems to agree that the majority of his Doctor Who scripts have been mediocre at best. Here's to a brand new era of our show!

I have no doubt that Peter will be amazing as the Doctor and I can't wait to see him in action, however I just hope the stories are an improvement this year to what we got in Series 7.

I think every now and then the show must revitalise, although I would have expected Smith to have stayed on in Series 8. But just because there is a new Doctor, doesn't mean the show changes completely. We are still in the Moffat era. Clara is still there and the Paternoster Gang. If the past is anything to go by, this era will have ended within a year's time. But let's see what Series 8 brings because I hope it's a massive improvement to what we have seen these past 2 years...

Don't think I can wait much more longer for this series XD At least we're about halfway now.

Most of Mark's stuff is aweful, but both his series 7 stories were brilliant. I therefor consider his stories very hit and miss. We'll see which one this fits into.

Peter's going to be A.....wait for it....mazing!

Peter's going to smash it into the park for sure! Just watching the nearly-Doctor-like Art video really zooms around my head on how he'll portray that incarnation and just really kick-it off with Jenna. I love Mark Gatiss, but sometimes he does tend to not recapture the almighty magic of who than Steven, but vice-versa with Sherlock, he can determine the right amount of spirit in an episode of Sherlock with Steven not being able to do the same. I think with great directing, and with great pace, the episode is awesome already. I wish they could focus on more of the SPACE side to Doctor Who, now that Matt Smith's gone, which seemed focused on the TIME side of Who. I also think some pop culture should return with the looks of Peter Capaldi kicking the role his own, some pop culture and references would be stunning and reprises David Tennant's era. Capaldi is a great actor, and I have trust that he'll bring something amazing. Tom Riley? Yep, he'd do just fine. And that's strange how he hasn't revealed his character, when the pictures are out and many people suggesting he will be playing Robin Hood, it seems obvious. But its weird he can't say, even though obvious, who he is playing. It mustn't be Robin Hood, but who? Who Mark, Who!!!?

Episode 3 looks to be a fun action-packed romp with an ensemble of guest cast. Based on previous fun and romp-y episodes, we shouldn't look much forward to it. However, I agree with Riley and think this episode is "going to absolutely smash it" as well!

@DrunkenDalek For me, it was a little bit like that. I went through 'PLEASE NO!!!' when it was rumoured, 'WHY GOD WHY?!?!?' when it was announced... and then the moment he walked out onto the stage, I thought, "Oh. Actually..."

I hae the same feeling, it's going to be hard and weird don't see Matt, but I have plenty hopes on Capaldi.

@Romanadvoratrelundar Guess I'm not "everyone". I'd venture to say that "everyone" isn't really "everyone". Didn't actually know that "everyone" actually had a spokesperson.

Romanadvoratrelundar

@Master Michael Moon I agree, the show got a "half-revamp" last year so I can't see them changing absolutely everything again. Because the slate got wiped so clean with Eleven everyone's assuming it will happen again with Twelve, but that would just be plain impractical. As you said we've still got Clara, many of the supporting characters, and (presumably, as they only just replaced it) the same TARDIS. I'm really thinking more along the lines of an "Eccleston to Tennant" transition here.

@Deus_Ex_Machina Both of his series 7 stories were brilliant? Have to disagree. Gatiss' only brilliant story is Night terrors. I would say his series 7 episodes are his weakest ones.

He's going to more than amazing. He's going to legen...

Romanadvoratrelundar
Romanadvoratrelundar

@Liana21 Oh I know! It reminds me very much of an...err...particular partially-missing story from classic DW season 2. And that one was amazing, I hope this is the same!

Romanadvoratrelundar
Romanadvoratrelundar

@BJAMES @Romanadvoratrelundar Oh for crying out loud, "everyone" can never actually literally mean everyone. What I meant was "the majority of the fandom" but it would have sounded stupid if I said "the majority of the fandom disliked the majority of his scripts". There is nothing wrong with liking Gatiss' scripts, The Crimson Horror is one of my most favourite episodes. Chill out man.

The Watchful Guardian
The Watchful Guardian

I think what Romana means is that the fanbase knows the Gatiss does impress everyone as none of his episodes being regarded as fan favourites despite being the favourites of some of the fan base members.
