" ... if they let me tamper with the script, it would probably be quite droll ... "

Proof positive that TB's having the fans on.

One of the reasons why TB got frustrated in the later years of his term is that he wanted to be more involved in the writing / directing of the show, and the producers wouldn't let him because (a) there's a demarcation between writers / directors and actors which he would have violated and (b) the producers had the sense that TB's sense of humour would have gotten the better of him.

Given the most likely slant of TB's "tampering," the likelihood of him being allowed to do so would be pretty slim.

Wow I could actually imagine Tom Baker blowing the BBC up...  "Do I have the right?"  then put the two wires together then next minute, KABOOOOOM! Then Tom turns around and faces the camera and grins with that smile and asks "Would you like a Jelly baby?"...

Just read that Tom was going to be in TSJA playing the 4th Doctor and Liz was apparently overjoyed at the idea. Then..., What a sad day that was. :(

Ahh, My Doctor still living the dream :)

I can't tell if that's how he actually feels about the other Doctors. I certainly hope not.

You know, I recently watched Shada (The unifinished Season 17 story), and with the way Tom Baker was narrating the missing bits, I got the sense that that was a likely inspiration for the curator... He was even standing in a museum....

Also, that bit at the end was amazingly delivered... "I suggested to Romana, that perhaps in hundreds of years, someone would meet me, and ask 'Was that really The Doctor? He seemed like such a nice old man..."

Classic. Classic Tom.

"Do I have the right? Simply touch one wire against the other and that's it. The BBC ceases to exist. Hundreds of millions of people, thousands of generations can live without fear, in peace, and never even know the words British Broadcasting Corporation. But I kill, wipe out a whole intelligent lifeform, then I become like them. I'd be no better than Zai Bennett when he axed Doctor Who Confidential because we all know what a buffoon he was for doing that" - the Fourth Doctor, Genesis of the Beeb.

I would love to see him again! When Tom popped up, I was so, so happy to see him, but it also rubbed me the wrong way because of the weird way they explained it. But, I would love to uprise the role of the Curator, and see where they go with it, and give him some backstory. :)

“If someone gave me two wires now and said, ‘You could blow up the BBC’ I’d be tempted.”

Oh Tom, ever the comedian. I'm sure Eccleston would join you.

I love Tom Bakers dry wit, superb. From the days before all the lovey dovey sicky wicky fan boy dross about the programme that's put out there now!

Gallifrey Falls...No More. He delivered that line with such prestige! Honestly, I wouldn't want him to return again. The ending of TDoTD was fantastic and it was amazing having him back, clearly playing a future incarnation of the doctor, but keep it as a one off. I'd like to be looking back, forty nine years from now, in anticipation of the 100th Anniversary Episode(s) and fondly remember that, that mad, jelly baby loving Doctor came back, more than 30 years after his last appearance, not, 30 years later, and then a few years after that too.

I always found the idea of the Curator quite fascinating... that perhaps the Doctor 'borrows' faces from human (*or other) acquaintances, allowing for a return of the lesser-used McGann and Hurt as new characters (showcasing their terrific acting talent) and from the old classics like Baker and Daviso.  It’s an original concept that could take the next fifty years in a very different direction…

*I say ‘or other’ because Baker 2.0 played Commander Maxil who, if I recall correctly was a Time Lord (but don’t quote me on that… don’t quote me on anything; this is Copyright Genie!).

P.S…. if I could blow up the BBC I would, and would have done so a thousand times over.  Except they make Who and don’t have any adverts… that’s a pretty weighty name to live up to.

After that last remark there's no way they would bring him back! I'm surprised they haven't sued him :O completely agree with him though :P

The only man alive who can aim a spectacular dig at the BBC, calling them monsters and suggesting blowing them up, and look like an absolute legend. Well played, sir, well played...

@DW2014 Noel Edmonds: Why thank you, I would like a jelly baby. Thank you for your participation, you will have the lead role in Doctor Who in my new BBC. *evil laugh*

@PK-S  Meh. Doctor Who Confidential wasn't very good anyway, in my opinion.

@The Genie I don't think it's ever been officially confirmed, but I'm pretty sure Maxil was a non-Time Lord Gallifreyan (not all Gallifreyans are Time lords)

@The Genie I've thought about the 'borrowing faces' thing before too. it would explain a lot about Salamander in Enemy of the World too.

@Baker Street… is the Moment!  Really too bad he gave away the surprise in an interview just a few days before, which I unfortunately saw.  But even knowing it was coming, the moment was just as amazing.  And Paul McGann surprised me, anyway.

amusing in an odd way; whimsically humorous; waggish.

@The Finn  It basically means "amusing," but with a slightly more grotesque style of humor than usual implied. It's an odd word choice, but it's hard to read that sentence and not understand him to be using the word in a positive light.

Ah, it's Tom. He rewrote most of his lines during his era. Always moaned about scripts.

@The Finn @sontaran17 @Deus_Ex_Machina  ...Droll means funny or amusing, its taken directly from French. Definition: "curious or unusual in a way that provokes amusement" synonyms: funny, humorous, amusing, comic, comical, mirthful, chucklesome, hilarious, rolicking.

@The Finn @Deus_Ex_Machina  I think it means - .

1. drollwhen someone is speaking or texting blunty, or cannot keep a conversation using language like; ok. fine. etc.
and when they have boring conversations   texting
you: hey
them:hi.
you: how are you?
them: fine.
you: stop being so droll
