Stanley Parable Narrator Cast in Doctor Who

British voiceover artist Kevan Brighting has said he will be lending his vocal talents to Doctor Who.

PC gamers might be more recently familiar with Brighting as the voice of The Narrator in The Stanley Parable.

Brighting said on his Twitter page: “The Narrator is pleased to announce he is adding his dulcet tones to the new Dr Who series.”

He added: “It seems logical that a Time Lord eventually needs helpful guidance from The Narrator.”

Hear Brighting in the trailer for The Stanley Parable below:

This is the story of a Time Lord called the Doctor. The Doctor worked to save the universe in a bigger-on-the-inside time and space ship where he was the Doctor number 12. The Doctor number 12's job was simple: stood in TARDIS console number 12 and pulled levers on the control board. Orders came to him from a monitor on the console, telling him what levers to pull, how long to pull them, and in what order. This is what Doctor number 12 did throughout all of time and space. And although others might have considered it impossible, Doctor number 12 relished every moment the orders came in, as if he had regenerated exactly for this job... The Doctor landed - The Doctor ran - The Doctor said - The Doctor went - The Doctor thought - SLAM! Ha ha ha ha ha ha, oh come now, you don't want it to begin already, do you? Why don't we go on hiatus again...

I played the "original" Stanley Parable.  The one that was just a Half Life 2 Mod, before it was a properly built game with its own assets and such.  And in both cases, as entertaining an experience as the game itself is, it simply would not be the same game without Kevan Brighting.  He just gives it such a particular energy and personality, that literally any other narrator would almost ruin it.  So I am extremely excited and curious to see what exactly he'll be contributing to the episode he's in.

I'm still waiting for Alan Carr to lend a hand with his voice & vocal talents for one episode.

My reaction to this was literally: Oh my god!!!! *covers mouth and laughs with extreme excitement* This is seriously something I didn't see coming. A voice actor from one of my favorite indie games being cast in Doctor Who. Just one of those things you never think about or see coming. This is awesome! I'm sure he'll be fantastic! He definitely provided many laughs while playing through The Stanley Parable! Can't wait!!!!!!

This is BRILLIANT news! Seriously, this got me excited enough to jump out of bed and get to school and tell everyone that the inimitable Kevan Brighting is going to add "his dulcet tones" to Doctor Who! Yay! The Stanley Parable is a postmodern masterpiece brought to electrifying life by Brighting's voice work - he can do Hitchhiker's Guide style narration, gentlemanly wit, biting sarcasm, oh-so-English confusion and even villainy. This is excellent news! How can we possibly wait until August??

Perhaps he'll be the voice of a new version of BOSS (from The Green Death), and the episode will end with Clara leaving the Doctor who drives away with a tear in his eye...

He could end up playing a villainous character without a body, similar to House or the Great Intelligence.

My god. I love The Stanley Parable, so this is great news. Can we have Ellen McLain for Series 9, please, and my life will be complete xD

Having played the game, I can safely say this is brilliant, if rather unexpected news.  It's just struck me that the Narrator is like a softer version of the dream lord, so I am excited to see what kind of role they give him.

I've never heard of him, but he speaks in the third person, so I like him.

A lovely voice, just screams of "friendly robot" or "suspiciously too nice robot".

Every time there's an announcement about someone new being cast for Series 8, I feel like I've been living under a rock coz everyone sounds so excited but I've never heard of most of those people, lol. I'll take everybody's words for it though. :)

How much longer for the wait again? Could I borrow someone's TARDIS? I'll return it, I promise. :D

What if the time lords are going to communicate telepathically to him like they did to the 4th Doctor, hence why he's been cast?

I love the Stanley Parable, I really can't wait for this! Now that the filming is coming to the finale probably, I can't help thinking he might have something to do with the Time Lords somehow, giving the Doctor 'helpful guidance' as said in the article

@Planet of the Deaf  Great Idea! I have a feeling there are a few interesting potential stories with BOSS that have never yet been explored.

@minifigureman11 Some endings of The Stanley Parable are terribly creepy, and some are hilarious. Some are a bit sad. Some are happy. The game gives you an ending for every occasion.
