Matt Smith has given some brief thoughts on who he thinks should succeed him on Doctor Who when he eventually leaves the role.

He told the Press Association: “I think there will need to be a younger, cooler person than me.”

Given that Smith is the youngest person yet to take on the role though, perhaps it’s time to swing it around the other way and have someone older next time?

He added: “Or maybe an older, cooler person, who knows?”

Smith also reiterated his comments last week that his future is not set in stone, but he doesn’t think he’ll be beating Tom Baker’s 7 year record: “I don’t think I’ll be doing it as long as Mr Baker,” he said.

“I just sort of take each year as it comes really. We’ve got all the rest of this year to get through and then we’ll just sit down and review it from there and see where it goes.

“But I love playing the part and I love working with Steven Moffat.”
