Smith Eager for Another Multi-Doctor Story

smith-capaldi-cMatt Smith has said that he is so eager to return to Doctor Who in a multi-Doctor special that he has already asked Steven Moffat about the earliest opportunity for him to do so.

Speaking at the Calgary expo, he said: “I love the idea of other Doctors coming back. Also that gives me the opportunity to come back, which I totally will by the way!”

“I’m just waiting for the next anniversary. I spoke to Steven the other day and said ‘what’s the quickest one we can do?'”

Well there’s always the 10th anniversary of the revival next year.

Step back in time...

The 10th anniversary should involve 9, 10, 11, and 12 taking on the Valeyard.

I look forward to Paul McGann, Matt Smith, David Tennant and Peter Capaldi all coming face to face as their respective Doctors.

The comments saying "OMG he regrets leaving!" are slightly annoying. I think its just because he loves playing the role. It's not about being the lead or getting paid, he truly loves this role. He quit, but that is no reason not to still play the part every now and then?

More Paul McGann, please! Any excuse to for more Eight.

I would like to see Paul McGann back first.  The Night Of The Doctor was so a good idea.  Connect the classic to the present.   For me a massive gift for fans who have stayed with show over the years.

Matt may want to come back given the terrible reviews of Lost River has been getting at Cannes.

"Well there’s always the 10th anniversary of the revival next year."

Not this again, this is the one of those things I definitely do not want to ever happen. I'm sick of there being idiots who honestly believe the show only started in 2005 (yes, they still exist, I had an argument with one the other day). Allowing them to continue wallowing in their ignorance is not a good idea.

Bless him, he really is missing Dr Who. Guy has so much affection for the role.

If you've just spent the year celebrating the amazing 50th anniversary of the show, it would look a bit odd to overly celebrate 2 years later the 10th anniversary of a bit of the show, but maybe something more low key could be done. I do get the feeling Matt misses the show, I think the majority of the actors leaving the part have had some regrets afterwards.

Although I am looking forward to seeing Peter Capaldi's debut episode, I am going to miss Matt's Doctor more than any other Doctor we've had in the 40 years I've been watching the show... When he was given the roll, he was exactly what I wanted the next Doctor to be, and any chance of him returning, even for a one off special would be most welcomed by me, and the sooner the better!!!

Yippee! Smith back, and with Paul, David and fingers crossed Chris, together with Peter, that's got classic written all over it! Looking forward to it already.  Please, please, please Moff, make it so :)

I think Multi Doctor stories should happen more often. Not every season but definitely not just on anniversaries. I think such great adventures and stories can come from them that it's a shame they're really only on anniversaries. Except for the two Doctors

Its kinda like breaking up with a really great girlfriend for all the right reasons, then her telling you its would probably ok to still have the occasional sleep over. Why would he say no?.

Well, I don't know what are going to be the theories to explain why the Twelfth Doctor looks like Caecilius, but I would love a remaking of  "Fires of Pompeii"  from 12th's point of view. They can even explain why Amy Pond was dressed as a Soothsayer (probably in disguise and doing the important stuff) with a silly Eleven running around to explore the roman fashionware (together with Rory of course). We already have Ten and Donna there, so all we need is to see the scenes we didn't see the first time around :))

I think that would be a great idea for a 10th NewWho anniversary and very unusual. It might be fun :D

I think that we might see Matt come back as the Doctor. Maybe its all there in front of us, the rumour that Capaldi has only signed on for a year, Tom Baker saying about revisting old faces but just the favourites. Maybe this is all lining up for some big thing in the future that the doctor can regenerate in to the faces or lives he loved the most......Just thinking out loud here

Since when has he referred to him as Steven instead of Moff :-)

I don't imagine there'll be much fuss over the 10th anniversary of New Who, especially not so soon after the 50th. There'll probably be no more than some nods to the past, maybe some returning monsters that year or something.

I first read that as "I spoke to Seven the other day".

I don't think there will be or should be a full-on special for the tenth anniversary, but what about some sort of web episode (like Night of the Doctor) or a comic relief skit?

I'd love a multi-Doctor story, but to be honest, my hopes are for an Eight and Twelve one before one with Eleven.

The 10th anniversary of New Who should be celebrated!!! which Matt Smith can return for a moment.

I feel like the "tenth anniversary" won't actually be a thing when it comes around. Moffat seems to be trying to connect the two eras of shows, and I have to say I agree with that idea. In another 50 more years, we don't want people to think of it as two separate shows-- a classic show and a rebooted show, we want it to be continuous. Even if it means not having a big celebration next year, I think the smart thing to do is not to celebrate that one.

Oooo, Matt is really regretting leaving, isn't he!? (or eager to repeat a Doctor-meetup episode - can't blame him though :D) I terribly excited to see what Peter brings to the role as The Doctor (after all, playing the part has been his childhood dream and he is an astounding actor, so lets give his the 'space and time' to enjoy his 'run' on the show), but I must admit that I miss Matt terribly! I still can't believe that my Doctor's time is up, so I'm all up for another multi-doctor story!

A "multi doctor" episode doesn't neccesarily mean something epic like Day of the Doctor. It could just be a rather small role for Matt. If the companion (Clara) get delusional and sees The Doctor as his 11th incarnation for a short time - and acting different because of it. If the episode would be anything like that, Capaldi and Smith wouldn't really act together, but we (and Clara) would still see 11 once more.

Well there was the Two Doctors wasn't there in 1985 with the second and sixth doctor and then of course there was Time Crash with the fifth and tenth doctor in 2007 so it doesn't necessarily have to be an anniversary episode. I can see him though more likely to come back maybe in 2015 with the twelfth doctor if moffat decides to celebrate that milestone.

MikeFalino

Matt feeling more than a twinge of regret?  I'm all for multi-doctor stories, believe me.  But it can't be all the time.  Should have stayed Matt, you could have beaten Tom Baker and kept on going, and nobody would have complained!

Eh, I don't really want him to come back so soon. He left, and needs to let Capaldi get his run for a while. There have been literally 30 seconds of Doctor Who since he left, and already asking is a bit early. Perhaps he shouldn't have left in the first place?

I don't think it's wise to bring back any doctors in the next year or two. It's time for the fanbase to accept the change. Maybe in 2-3 years they could bring him back, but it's too soon within the next year or two. Maybe Matt will still be so enthusiastic by then, or maybe he will be too involved in bigger projects. He needs to move on.

I would love! to see many more multi Doctor story's.

I'd like to see different combinations of Doctors together. I'd like to see The War Doctor again, I'd like to see Mcgann again,The Curator,David Bradley as The First Doctor,The Valeyard and a future Doctor.

But most of all, I would love! a story line where The Doctor doesn't regenerate but starts to degenerate, and we get a few episodes with 11,10,9,War,8.

@The_Eternal_Dalek I agree somewhat - though I do think it might be funny if, since the 50th anniversary only contained Doctors from the revival, that if the 10th anniversary of the revival contained Doctors from the original - that might actually serve to shut up a lot of these idiots!

@The_Eternal_Dalek  There's a reason they said 10th anniversary of the REVIVAL, and not just 10th anniversary. 10 years of Doctor Who coming back after decades IS a big thing and SHOULD be celebrated.

Rani Nose

Life is way too short and precious to be angry over such trivial matters. There is nothing wrong with celebrating the tenth anniversary of the show's return. Doing so does not show any disrespect toward the original show.

@Planet of the Deaf  hey this is D Who we-should be celebrating its awesomeness EVERY year. Also the TV show may have started originally 50 years ago. But a large proportion of the audience that watches it will have only started in 2005 being too young for the older stuff to be on. So why not celebrate that. I mean at the end of the day if people will watch it in large numbers or go to the cinema to watch it like with the 50th then why not? As long as it's done properly it can't really do any harm...

Rani Nose

@Romanadvoratrelundar  I agree.  A mini-episode, or some subtle reminder within an episode (the Doctor and companion go into Henrik's, the London Eye is in the background, or something like that) would suffice.

Romanadvoratrelundar

@Creepy_Ghoul I wouldn't say that, he would have spent a lot of time making that decision and weighing it up - it's not like it was an impulse or something.

donjuannebulon

@MikeFalino  He really is the most nuanced performer that's ever played The Doctor. If you watch closely, you can see he's worked out every thought in The Doctor's head every moment he's on camera. I first saw it when he picked up the glass of water to listen to the wall in 11th Hour. He sees that it will amplify his hearing, realizes it's full of water, tosses the water, realizes that's not what a person should do, acknowledges the fact that he needs to listen to the wall, and that tossing the water was a better idea. Disregards his thoughts on tossing the water, then goes back to listening to the wall. It all takes place in a couple seconds.

Sure Tennant captured the ancient royal majesty and power of a Time Lord, and Baker was super-weird, Pertwee was a noble alien failing at his human impersonation. but Smith. Smith thought through and delivered every second like a genius, insane alien. I think once his career picks up, he won't be so regretful. But I think he should have stayed on for a couple more seasons. He was practically 3 Doctors on his own based on how much his performance changed during his tenure.

@CurtConners  Every other actor has been less gracious and open about their feelings. I'll bet you, that when Matt sees Capaldi's first episode he'll be as supportive and enthusiastic as the biggest fan. He became a fan by being The Doctor. We love the guy just from watching him. Forgive Matt for being overly emo.
