Series 8: Watch Deep Breath First

doctor-who-series-8-capaldi-coleman-landscapeThe much-anticipated new series of Doctor Who will have its world premiere in Cardiff on August 7, BBC Wales has announced today (July 4, 2014).

Marking the start of the BBC One hit sci-fi drama’s spectacular world tour, the premiere will be fans’ first chance to see Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, alongside Jenna Coleman as on-screen companion Clara, in episode one of the new series.

The stars will be attending the lunchtime St David’s Hall red carpet event, together with lead writer and producer Steven Moffat. Tickets will be available to the public from St David’s Hall Box Office from Monday 7 July.

The feature-length premiere episode of the eighth series, entitled Deep Breath, will land on BBC One on Saturday 23 August, 2014.

BBC Wales Director Rhodri Talfan Davies says: “Doctor Who is getting even bigger and even better – and it’s a real thrill that the show’s fans here in Wales will be the very first to see the new Doctor at this very special premiere screening. Doctor Who has been made in Wales for almost ten years – and we’re so proud of its worldwide success.”

The event is held in association with BFI Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder, the full programme for which will be announced later this month.

…next stop London!

  • Tickets will be available to the public from 10am on 7 July from St David’s Hall Box Office on 029 2087 8444 or online at stdavidshallcardiff.co.uk
  • The Doctor Who world tour is organised by BBC Worldwide. Off topic I know, but I'm gutted about those scripts getting out - I know that I'll avoid them like the plague until they air, but I feel really sorry for the writers, crew and everyone involved in making the show. Things they wanted secret to surprise people are now, well, not-so-secret and when they air, won't be as surprising to some. I'm sure that they're getting frustrated as well - this is the second consecutive time a series has lost one or more of their 'big' episodes (Series 7 had , and it's out of their hands. Hopefully they'll find and contain these scripts pretty soon so that a minimum amount of people will have seen them.

Like many others, I'm afraid I'm going to have to avoid the majority of things online regarding Doctor Who, just to make sure that I'm one of those who still watch these episodes with knowing any important knowledge of the story - just as the production team intended.

Why anyone would want to spoil an entire load of scripts rather than watch the episodes when they're broadcast is way beyond me.

Well done to DWTV for the quick response and reaction

Best of luck to the BBC in finding the stolen scripts, many people like a spoiler here and there but entire script leaks are truly dreadful, better take a break from the internet!

I think I'll be avoiding DW sites... even this wonderful one... for the next couple of weeks.

Good luck to all of us wishing to remain spoiler free!

See you on the other side :D

They're going on a worldwide tour yet still locking out foreign viewers for the premiere. Why can't they just have the premiere in theaters worldwide?

With all the possibilities of serious spoilers rearing their viperous heads, I'm gonna go bury mine (head that is) in the sand until the new series is broadcast.

I'm desperately hoping they do a screening of it at Reading and Leeds Festival, I've been tweeting them every day asking! JOIN THE CAUSE, I can't miss the first episode!

Terrible booking system - took me 2 hours to get two tickets!

After an hour of frustratingly annoying error messages, I finally got tickets for me and my friend! Cannot wait! Said they had all sold out at about 10.30 but then 20 minutes later, all on sale again! Worst booking system ever but so happy and just sooo excited!

I don't know how I did it, but after an hour of the site crashing and a moment where I got to payment and put my details in and nothing loaded, I thought: dammit. Its over. That's it. No chance. Then I checked my e-mail and there it was. CONFIRMED! I'm so happy and excited :D

The site threw me out just as I was about to purchase a pair of tickets! Thoroughly disappointed, one of the worst booking systems I have ever come across.

Even though I'm English I am pleased this is happening in Wales. Everything is always set in London but Wales contributes so much to the making of the show, they deserve to see it first

It's just times like these I wish I lived in Britain, so I wouldn't have to factor in plane tickets or anything....

@Captain Braxton  That's of course assuming it was leaked. A lot of people suspect the whole thing was a BBC publicity stunt to get the internet sites to stop speculating.

@Captain Braxton  Just in time, since the first five episodes were leaked :P Its only a matter of time, before more leaks arrive

@Whogasms they're going to. Details on that will probably come sometime this week.

@mrpaddy1984 Well done, but in case you're thinking of leaking the plot...

STEVEN MOFFAT KNOWS WHERE YOU LIVE, AND YOU WON'T LIKE HIM WHEN HE'S ANGRY :-)

@The Finn At the end of the day, the venue has about 2000 seats, so that's fraction of the number of Doctor Who viewers in Cardiff, never mind the whole of Britain!

Much as I'd like to be sitting there with my popcorn next to Jenna on the back row, I'm sure I'll cope with the 2 week wait until proper transmission on TV

mrpaddy1984

No no, no spoilers. It would ruin my plot to become Moffat's best friend and confidante (and I'm already shaky enough on how to make that happen..)

mrpaddy1984

I wouldn't dream of spoiling it for anyone. I'll offer to write a spoiler free review for the site although I imagine DWTV will already have someone lined up for that.

@mrpaddy1984 Moff (stroking a white cat): So, you want to be my confidante?

mrpaddy1984: Yes Mr Moffat, and your best friend as well.

Moff: And my best friend??? Why should I trust you, you don't like me, you only want my secrets. You want to know that great cliffhanger in the penultimate episode of Series 9, so you can tell all your friends.

mrpaddy1984: I'm sorry Mr Moffat

Moff (thumping desk): NOBODY WILL KNOW MY SECRETS!!!
