Series 8: Master Finale Rumours

the-master-the-end-of-time-hoodPotentially backing up existing rumours, The Daily Star are today claiming that the Master will indeed return for the finale of Series 8. They state that John Simm could be replaced by a “Hollywood actor.”

Their report says:

THE Master will make a sensational return from the grave for the finale of the new series.

Bosses have secretly plotted to bring the Time Lord’s arch enemy back for a big cliffhanger.

And it’s rumoured they are looking for a Hollywood actor to take on the role.

Filming will take place next month but will be done inside a TV studio to avoid spoilers.

Rumours have been rife that The Master, originally played by the late Roger Delgado, might return.

In one forthcoming story in the new series, the new Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, 56, heads to Lanzarote to re-visit the scene of an old adventure.

The last time he was there was in 1984 for a story called Planet Of Fire and The Master was at the centre of the action.

Ex-Time Lord actor Sylvester McCoy, 70, also teased at a fan convention earlier this year that the schemer might be back.

Step back in time...

"The master played by the late roger delago might return" um how he's dead? Why not just have it that John Simm's regenerated? Makes more sense.... After all the Master didn't know anything about the time war etc in series 3 ergo bringing him back before then would seem silly.

I reckon Jesse Spencer would make a brilliant Master!

So, do we think The Master was on the other side of that crack, and is somehow (partially? / wholly?) responsible for the Doctor getting a new round of regenerations?  What's The Master been doing on Gallifrey since he went back there in the End of Time (I'm assuming that's what happened, anyway.)

You don't stop being a Time Lord. Once a  Time Lord, always a Time Lord.

Well his name means he is already half way to being the Master.

Well, between The End of Time and Day of the Doctor, I'd say the Master had enough time to regenerate himself from Time Lord technology, steal a TARDIS, and escape the planet. I really hope that he returns! I don't think Hollywood or not matters, as long as he fits the part.

Maybe James Marsters as the master....

John Simm is great as The Master. Would rather not see Who go Hollywood on us.

Omega must return! He has had all this time to try to escape into the Doctor's Universe!

I did hear a rumour of Charles Dance cast as the Master. But that was a while ago now....

Do we have to bring back the master? Why not a new evil time lord? Not really evil, just a product of his circumstances. A timelord born on the eve of the time war and was raised and scarred by it. He saw the Doctor as a traitor as he abondoned them to the daleks and the high councils's final sanction. They were suddenly transported to a nightmarish void of no time and nowhere like an insect in amber. He will  escape and visit his vengeance on the Doctor, and tell him his nightmares and the horrors that he unleashed upon gallifrey. Because he knows better than anyone, he is the Witness!

I know he's kind of a big name (however this is the show that got Ian McKellen to cameo), but I think that Ben Kingsley would be a great Master. And if not the Master, he should at least be a Time Lord. He's kind of perfectly suited to the role.

Imagine Guy Fieri or Vin Deisel as the Master, Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson would be so strange

I personally would choose one of these: Malcolm McDowell, Jason Isaacs, Ian McDairmid, Brendan Gleeson or Ciaran Hinds.

If i were the newly regenerated Master and I took a look around space and time, do you know what the one thing that would really make me angry would be???. The Doctor Man in the little blue box trying to bring back Gallifrey. SERIOUSLY!!!!!. AFTER EVERYTHING THEY PUT ME THROUGH!!!!. In my world , The Master would be the voice of reason, keeping Gallifrey in exile for the protection of the universe and standing against The Doctor in his quest to bring them back.

Here we go the dawn of the chesey American actors, have forgotten about the dreadful actor who played the Master in the TV movie?! Please bring the Master back but make him a good British actor!!

If you read the original article it says the Master was shot by his wife in The End Of Time. Now we all know that this is wrong so how can we trust a source that gets something this simple wrong? Better take this with a pinch of salt; or a handful.

I'd like to see Charles Dance or Ian Mckellen play the master,  however as this seemingly exclusive confirmation of the Master returning is written in the Daily star, I have to question it's validity.

I've always wanted to have a multi-Master episode. If we can have more than one incarnation of Doctor in one story, why not?

DanFellows
DanFellows

Yes of course. The Master's mind is in the new Dr or is the new Dr. I am betting Capaldi is playing both parts. He'll either end up being just the Dr, or will be The Master after just one season as 'the Dr'. As long as Danny Pink isn't a watcher type of Dr who then becomes the Dr official, i'll be happy!

With Michael Fabricant leader of the Autons - he's already got the name and the look.

Next Doctor-Lite episode should be "A day in the life of the Master."

The Master is also more likely to transgress the 1st law of time. Unfortunately Ainley and Delgado are no longer with us so it would be difficult if most of the incarnations were played by different actors.

I feel the Master is doing fine and well, in fact you could say he's "in the Pink"...

I am not sure its been confirmed, I am sure somebody will correct me if this is wrong, but i think she was on Gallifrey as President just before the Time War.

calliarcale

@Richy Woo It's not been confirmed whether that's canon or not.  I used to like thinking it as canon, but now I prefer thinking it's not, since it gives her the chance of survival.

doctorwhomultiverse
doctorwhomultiverse

But this poses another question I mean surely not all time lords were on Gallifrey particularly the Rani who probably would not be bothered in what she would likely view as a pointless war. This means she may not have been locked away in the Universe with the time lords.

Richy Woo
Richy Woo

Again this is not cannon or absolute, but i am sure I read in Prose that during the Time War Singular timelords were hunted down and killed by Dalek death squads, so most chose to return to the defence of Gallifrey. Or got themselves some fancy pocket watches.
