Bad news everyone. It has been announced that Doctor Who will not have a full series in 2012.

Confirming earlier rumours, BBC1 Controller Danny Cohen announced it to audiences earlier today at the 2011 Church and Media Conference.

The news was broke via an attendee through Twitter who said: “Danny Cohen says there won’t be a full series of Doctor Who in 2012, but a special run for the anniversary in 2013.”

BBC news reporter Lizo Mzimba then followed: “No FULL 13 episode series of Dr Who in 2012. So some episodes will still go out in 2012. Remainder in 2013.”

Last week the BBC revealed that 14 episodes of Doctor Who had been commissioned with Matt Smith in the role.

Details on exactly what we’ll get in 2012 are slim, but the Guardian reported last week that “a good chunk” episodes will be shown. Whether this is still the case remains to be seen at the moment.

It seems we could be heading for another year of specials.
