If Steven Moffat is planning a multi-Doctor story for Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary, it seems he will have little trouble getting the Eighth Doctor back. Paul McGann has said he would love to return to the role.

“Being Doctor Who, there’s always anniversaries looming large – celebration programmes and episodes,” he explained to Digital Spy. “I’m often asked, ‘If they get the five Doctors together, would you do it?’ and of course, I’d do it. They’ve just got to ring me up!”

“Although I was [in] Doctor Who for six weeks, sixteen years ago, it never goes away – it only ever seems to get stronger,” he suggested.

“I’d love to do that again, but that’s not up to me.”

McGann’s Doctor only appeared in the 1996 TV movie. Although it wasn’t terribly well received, McGann’s Doctor was generally praised. It was just a shame he never got to reprise the role when Doctor Who came back, even if it was just to film the regeneration into Chris Eccleston.
