Frank Skinner Cast in Series 8

frank-skinner-doctor-whoComedian Frank Skinner is to guest star in Series 8 of Doctor Who.

Skinner is set to appear in Jamie Mathieson’s episode alongside David Bamber, Daisy Beaumont, Janet Henfrey and Christopher Villiers.

Skinner said: “I love this show. I subscribe to Doctor Who magazine, I’ve got a TARDIS ringtone, a five-foot cardboard Dalek in my bedroom and when I got the call saying they wanted me to read for the part, I was in the back of my tour bus watching episode three of The Sensorites. I am beyond excited.”

Steven Moffat said: “It’s no secret that Frank’s been pitching vigorously to get into Doctor Who for a while. He’s been volunteering to be ‘third monster on the left’ as long as I’ve been in this job.

“But now, in Jamie Mathieson’s sparkling script, we finally have a part that can showcase all of Frank’s famous wit and charm. Hopefully he’ll get out of my garden now.”

Below far right, Frank in The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot.

Oh, I'm so happy for him! I remember him telling the story on Graham Norton about how he wrote a letter to the BBC asking to be on the show and they replied with "We're happy to hear that's something Frank would like to do" ("where's the rest of it?!" he joked). I love the idea of as many Whovians as possible working on the show :D

I'm glad they interrupted him before he could watch any more of The Sensorites, to be honest.

It's awesome that he's such a Doctor Who fan. Can't wait!

Watching The Sensorites is not my idea of occupying oneself during a bus tour, personally I find that serial so boring that I think just starring out of the window of the bus would be more interesting...

This is so much funnier if you've seen the Graham Norton episode with him and Billie Piper, you'll truly understand his obsession with the show!

Casting news for series 8 gets better and better.

But that's only to be expected, I think, because after last year everybody now  knows how fond people are of Doctor Who and they are eager to get involved either because it's the dream of their lives or because they would like to be in a mainstream show.

I enjoy Room 101 but I don't know if it is because of Frank Skinner. I'll be interested to see what's he's like.

This guy had a cameo in Dark Eyes 2 right? I only know him from that and Fivish, but apparently he's really into Doctor Who from what Nick Briggs said in the bonus disk of DE2, so that's cool.

I like him on room 101 so it will be interesting to see his acting skills.

Now I wonder if I stand in moffats garden if I can get a part on doctor who? ;)

A small-time writer landing a big-name role like Frank really does suggest this ep is of good quality, no?

While I haven't seen much of his stuff I do know that's he's a great comedian, and it's fantastic to have fans of the show in the show itself because… well, imagine if one of us got cast in the show!

No idea who he is. I don't even remember in The Five(ish) Doctors. Everyone seems excited though so I'm guessing his casting is a good thing.

Strangely enough, I was watching the Graham Norton Show episode with Frank and Billie Piper just this morning where they were talking about why Frank hasn't appeared in the show yet.

Other than The Five(ish) Doctors I don't think I have seen him in anything...

Frank is a genuine Who fan, it's amazing how many comedians love the show and have appeared on it.

Oh poo.

I never have liked Frank Skinner but I'm sure in a script overseen by Steven. Off at and team he may just be bearable.

I wonder if the monster in the episode will kill him first...?

Greatly admire Frank Skinner as a comedian, hope he goes down in Doctor Who history as more of a Simon Pegg or Catherine Tate appearance than a Peter Kay one.

The only difficulty is getting past being seen as yourself, even with all his getup I only ever see David Walliams as David Walliams in the God Complex, for example. You see it all the time elsewhere, Michael Caine is always Michael Caine and while I practically worship Stephen Fry as a God, I can never see him as anything but Stephen Fry when he appears in something.

"Hopefully he’ll get out of my garden now"...I just love the Moff's humour XD

And this sounds like a great casting. Putting comedians into the show works really well (just look at Catherine Tate).

I wonder if the Daleks are camping in Moffat's garden threatning to exterminate if they don't appear in every series...

@awkward912  Judging by Jamie's Being Human episodes, it might be good. I say might because he did write the worst episode of Series Five, but that's only because the others were fantastic. His other episodes were great.

What do you mean? If you mean it wasn't broadcast in your country, that's because it's primary release was online.

@The Finn He's a great stand up, Room 101, Fantasy Football, his chat shows, Baddiel and Skinner unplanned etc

Planet of the Deaf

@MrRazza There's a whole article to be written about comedians and comic actors appearing on the show. Lee Evans, Bill Bailey, Mitchell and Webb, Armstrong and Miller (separately), John Cleese, Alexei Sayle also spring to mind

@TheCapaldiMasterplan @awkward912 His BH episodes are decent but not standout, but hopefully this will be a big break for him and I'm sure he's given it his absolute all. I'm looking forward to it. Now where's Toby Whithouse this year?

Planet of the Deaf
Planet of the Deaf

@The Finn @Planet of the Deaf He's not been in much drama, so that makes sense.

Internationally, he's probably most famous for Three Lions the brilliant Euro 96 song, it's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming, football's coming home...
