Strax is the lovable stereotype who makes a bad image for his race like willie from the Simpsons,  Moffat has made them a joke in recent years- especially in time of the doctor. Definitely needs a reboot to remind us of the elite warrior prestige seen in the past.

You want to see a REAL Sontaran?  Watch Pertwee's "The Time Warrior" which introduced both the Sontarans and Sarah-Jane Smith.  The Sontaran in that one, Lynx, would take one look at Strax and off him just by flexing his big toe.

But don't get me wrong.  I like Strax.  I would just like to see the Sontarans once again presented as the strong, ruthless aliens they were in the early years.

Can't wait to see how the Twelfth Doctor interacts with the gang. And I hope they'll focus more on Jenny as she was brilliant in the Crimson Horror. She's my favourite of the three.

DWM says: Kate O'Mara remembered - I say: The Rani has (sadly) been beaten

I'm not keen on how the Sontarans have been made silly, but I love Madame Vastra and Jenny, the Paternoster Gang really need their own spin-off.

I'm totally cool with Strax as the comedic character, but we desperately need a Sontaran episode where they are a genuine enemy again. Poison Sky was great!

"Thank you for your co-operation." That's just priceless.

Will the Paternoster Gang be appearing in the comic strip until Capaldi makes his debut?

Not gonna lie, this makes me worried that Moffat isn't going to change much.

I know a lot of people don't like them, but I really enjoy watching Vastra, jenny and Strax. I look forward to their return in series 8.

It's a shame that Kate O'Mara couldn't have had the cover dedicated to her. Still, at least it means we should get some series eight news.

I am hoping their return is short lived, literally. I don't want them to survive beyond Series 8.

Jenny has a weird look...

Love Strax and his juxtaposing comments: Silence human scum or you will be obliterated! (May I take your coat?) I blame my sense of humour for enjoying his character so much!

Apparently you can win the TARDIS. I'm afraid a figure and a book just don't cut it as other prizes ;)

They so need their own spinoff :D

I always did feel that Moffat's story arc echoed the Cartmell Masterplan.... Right down to the Fez and the Mop in the same story where "the Question" is first asked.

I take it 'scum' does not have the same meaning in British english as it does in American english?

@The MasterDoctor Lynx has never been bettered, Neither the acting or the costume. That tongue action gave me the creeps as a kid :)

I've always had this idea that the Sontarans invade, and Strax has to choose between the doctor ect. And his own kind.

@MeglosProductions It's entirely sensible to keep some recurring characters between the eras, Captain Jack worked with both 9 and 10 for example. Besides, while the Paternosters may be the same, I'm sure 12's reactions to them will be different

Why were you expecting him to? Just because the Doctor regenerated? Moffat isn't the Doctor.

@Thesilence_1994 Me too! I think most people do like them, but it is those who don't who are very vocal about it!

Yes, a big shame. That said, she's had two covers dedicated to her before (in the 80s and again in the 90s) - put into perspective, William Russell didn't grab his own cover until 2012. 2012! It beggars belief, it really does.

@Master Michael Moon Mhm. Right now it looks like the most likely way to get them away from the main show is to give the Paternosters a spinoff. That way those who don't like the trio get rid of them, while their fans have something to enjoy. Win-win.

Looks to me like it's the mega expensive 11 cd soundtrack box set in its hand made wooden case...

@TheOncomingSnow  12: I can't believe it, they've given away my TARDIS in a competition! It look like I'm going to have to rely on Bessie again, now where I did I leave her?

Moxx
Moxx

Oh yes! The Doctor taking on a companion for a 'reason', the Doctor's murky and hidden past, a bouncy Doctor with dark and aggressive outbursts, references to past stories with a new spin... You're right. :D

It's still very offensive and extremely degrading to refer to someone as 'scum' - but in the context of the attitude of a dim-witted alien invader, it's naturally taken in a light-hearted way.

Antee991166
Antee991166

@Rani Nose  In Britain, "scum" means something worthless or depraved. I'm almost nervous to ask what it means in America...

RoastNewt

@Amy's on the Mofflex Diet I presume (s)he meant change within the show itself - the tone, the story arcs, the supporting characters, etc. - rather than in Moffat as a person. There'd be no reason to assume the latter.

I just don't like how the Silurians and Sontarans have been turned into comical characters. I know it's only two examples from both species, but there needs to be a war between them and they have to decide if they will stay loyal to their respective species or not.

Rani Nose
Rani Nose

@Antee991166 @Rani Nose It means that too in America, but it also refers to a precious bodily fluid that did not make it to the destination biology requires it to reach to further the species.

MaraBackman

@Master Michael Moon My gripe with the Silurians is that the re-design to make them look human missed the point of them. The Silurians are supposed to be hideous by human standards, so that both the human characters and the audience will be challenged in sympathizing with the tragic monsters. Making them look like sexy lizard-women works against their story-purpose, plus that the Classic-Silurians had a very distinct appearance that could have looked excellent with modern animatronics.

The_Eternal_Dalek
The_Eternal_Dalek

@Master Michael Moon  Maybe with the Sontarans you have a point, but the Silurians aren't 100% evil and never have been. Vastra helping out humas is not her being disloyal to her own kind, although some of her own kind would believe that is the case many others would support her.

Amy is Hannibal

I am an American and I have never once heard the word "scum" used to refer to that. @.@

@TheOncomingSnow @Master Michael Moon Vastra has become very human like, especially her intimate relationship with Jenny (something I will not go into further). Strax on the other hand, despite his original position (from when we first see him) being a nurse, is a clone born Sontaran warrior for god sake. I don't see how he even gets on with a Silurian and even humans for that matter. He then became a butler to Vastra and Jenny and his sole purpose is to suggest comical military tactics. I want a Silurian/Sontaran war and let's see where Vastra and Strax stand then. And as for Jenny, well she's just useless...

edweezy

@MaraBackman @Master Michael Moon But these are the new Silurians. In the Doctor Who Monster Files video on the new Silurians, it was mentioned that the Silurians had undergone a couple of redesigns in the past, and that the idea was to make them appealing to a newer, younger audience. So yes, while I agree that making them more human-like misses the point of the Silurians (they are, after all, lizard people) and that the Classic Silurian look could have looked fantastic with modern animatronics or prosthetics, the new Silurians are aimed at the audience watching Doctor Who in this day and age, and unfortunately, I don't think Classic Silurians would do it for them.
