Capaldi Wins TV Personality of the Year

capaldi-gq-awards-2014Peter Capaldi has been declared the “TV Personality of the Year” by GQ in their “Men of the Year Awards”.

Capaldi said: “I’ve been very lucky because in the past I’ve received awards for my acting. This is the first I’ve received for my personality, which I assume means they’ve never met me.

“The reason I’ve got this award is because I got the chance to play the role of a lifetime twice. Malcolm Tucker in The Thick Of It. And I also got to play Doctor Who.

“The real people who know the personality of the year are my family – my mother and my sister and my wife who have put with my personality and endured it to the point that I can get this “.

Congrats to Peter!

Step back in time...

I also got to play doctor who or I also get to play doctor who . Is it just for one season then ? :-)

I reckon that picture of Capaldi is an early publicity shot for the Christmas special. It would seem appropriate that he gets his own Christmas outfit, echoing Tennant and of course the bow tie from Smith. And if we think, the Christmas special is surely beginning production soon...

Congradulations Peter! And I bet if a Dalek saw him in that badass outfit he'd start begging for mercy (again). The suit and the eyebrows...beware!

Congratulations Peter Capaldi!

I'm so glad to see he has won a award after his FIRST episode of Doctor Who. Hope he keeps it up!

Glad to see GQ make a good decision in their awards, given one of their other choices that is receiving an awful lot of well-deserved mockery and outrage on the internet.

Capaldi truly is a fantastic actor - indicated by the fact that whenever you see him in something (or, indeed, playing different characters within the same show) he always looks, sounds and just generally comes across as very different, as if he really was a different man. And when you've been Malcolm Tucker and now Doctor Who as well, that's a very great achievement.

I can't help but feel that since only two of his episodes have aired so far, his role in Doctor Who didn't really contribute to this, but it's still great to hear. If I needed any more reassurance that the TARDIS is in good hands, here it is.

Congratulations Peter Capaldi.

How can he surely be personality of the year when he's been sown in 2 episodes if a show and done little else in that year.

He must wear that in an episode now. Tennant-copying be damned.

Congrats Peter, nice Bow tie (sorry, I had to say it)

With that tie, he reminds me of the Third Doctor even more! Congratulations on the award Peter!

Great photo. Where did it come from? Photoshopped?

Jenna presented the GQ award to Peter.

Earlier this year, Jenna's award from Glamour Women magazine was presented to her by Matt.

Close knit, the Doctor Who family!

He looks like Bond in that tux! Damn you almost wish that was his everyday costume!

I probably just being overly paranoid because I love Capaldi's Doctor and want him to stay forever, but this line worries me: "And I also got to play Doctor Who."

He should wear this for the Christmas special

He looks so damn classy with that suit. Hey, I wonder if the Twelfth Doctor will get some sort of dinner suit, like 10 and 11 before him?

Capaldi looks very James Bond esque in that suit, very awesome, and a well deserved award. Congrats PC :)

Peter: "I wear a bowtie now. Bowties are cool."

If you hadn't, I or 642 other commenters would have said it.

@Clara Laurinda That's not his outfit from the award ceremony, but a very suave look. Looking like that, Danny Pink doesn't stand a chance!

Actually, it seems to me that the more into the show the actor is, the more often they refer to the character as Doctor Who. Tennant did it frequently as well, and both he and Capaldi are massive fans.

@Deus_Ex_Machina And of course old Tom himself refers to himself frequently as "Doctor Who". It might be technically incorrect but who cares, really? :)

I think the point is the past tense verb, not the usage of Doctor Who.
