As for series 6, it was easily one of the weakest series, second only to series 7.2. The whole River arc crap dragged it down heavily. My rankings:

The impossible astronaut/Day of the moon- 3.5/10

The curse of the black spot- 6/10 (At least it's enjoyable)

The doctor's wife- 6/10

The rebel flesh/The almost people- 7.5/10

A good man goes to war- 3/10

Let's kill River (Sorry, Hitler)- 3/10

Night terrors- 8/10

The girl who waited- 8.5/10

The God complex- 4/10

Closing time- 7/10

The wedding of River Song- 3.5/10

The story is a bit naff, but it is a good watch at Christmas. 6/10, but that's being generous.

3 - Poor. Not as bad as I originally saw after the first watch, but still very bad. Second worst Christmas Special EVER!

10/10 for every Smith episode.

He executes the character perfectly, and I love the writing.

Now, this is my opinion.

Don't accuse me of voting randomly.

THE WORST EPISODE OF DOCTOR WHO EVER. i never really like episodes first time round and i always watch them again and i think they are good. but not this episode it sucked so bad both times i watched it. THIS IS NOT DOCTOR WHO! yes i know doctor who is a kids program but this is just kiddy to the extreme. the characters were really irritating and dull. i cant think of anyrhing good about the episodes i just want it to be erased from history. right im gonna watch some slipknot videos to calm myself down. 1/10

1/10. The worst episode I have ever watched. There are no redeeming factors, as even Smith is rather poor, as though forced to joke his way through the story

2/10.

The opening scene look really good, until the moment that a law of nature, in particular a certain law that many characters in Who have died from, reversed - like Torchwood Miracle Day. In fact, maybe Miracle Day was in effect during the 1940's for the few minutes the Doctor would have managed to breathe whilst trying to get into a suit whilst falling to Earth. In a vacuum. With no air. Without dying.

I appreciate it's only 10 seconds, and the Doctor is an alien, and Doctor Who can get away with some things, but this was just a massive, annoying...thing.

But anyway. That's my big rant over.

The next 10min or so after the titles was good - not wow, but good - and it really did feel like Christmas. At this point, I brushed the breathing-in-a-vacuum thing out of my mind and my hopes raised once more.

And then came the rest of the episode, from the point where they all entered the forest. The wooden King and Queen were fine, no problems there, but seemed wasted. The miners had so much potential, and yet it was unrealised (wasted actors all over this episode). The end was rushed, although that's not too unheard of in Who nowadays. I am going to admit that at this point, I am trying to be positive about all of this. Madge and Cyril annoyed me, can't entirely put my finger on why, but I just didn't like them and their attitudes.

The only reason why I didn't give this a 1 was for the brilliant scene at the end with the Ponds - such a touching and simple scene that I loved.

It's worth mentioning that all of this is just my feelings, I know others feel differently about this episode :)

10/10- Unlike most people, I really enjoyed it. It was fun, it had a great plot, it was heart-warming. What more can you ask for?

I felt the story was a bit weak, there weren't any villains and it was a bit boring, 4/10.

10/10 I can think of literally nothing wrong with this episode. It's one of my absolute favorites. It's incredibly enchanting and can stand almost completely on it's own if you haven't seen any other episode. (Perhaps I hold so much affection for this one is because it's the first ever episode I watched and it got me hooked)

An 8 from me.  Entertaining.  Loved the Doctor showing the family around the house, with the amazing bedroom and Lemonade tap.  So funny. !

Yet another 1, because there's no 0. Absolutely shocking.

I am constantly surprised by the amount of love for A Christmas Carol, I can't think of one redeeming feature. It goes last on my christmas special list

TheImprobableBoy

This was slightly above average. It had it's moments, but personally, for me, it lacked something that "A Christmas Carol" had. Loved the ending though. Really worth it. 6/10 for me.

Aztecs, Daleks and Cavemen

6/10 not bad. Not my least favourite christmas special. It was as with a lot of christmas specials visually stunning.

5/10. It's my least favorite Christmas special. But, hey, at least we had Madge. Plus I have to admit I cried a little.

grumpyoldcow

My least favorite episode of the Matt Smith era. Sure a few good things, like the actresses that played Marge and Lily. Nice concept of the trees having spirits and needing to be saved. But not enough positive things to rate this other than a 3. It would be complete washout if not for the beautiful bit at the end of the Doctor showing up at the Pond's doorstep on Christmas. Always extra points for the TARDIS in the snow, and this time being real, earth snow, too.

oh, and extra fangirl gushing - this is the last episode to feature the Doctor with his hair long around his face.

Great episode, One of the best of the season and my 2nd favorite Christmas special behind the Snowmen 8/10 :)

Only in the land of Who...

A bit weird, but once you keep telling yourself it's Doctor Who then it makes sense.

I think it's still one of the better ones, and no matter how times you watch it, it always brings a tear to your eye at the end, and if it didn't then your a Cyberman.

Any episode that gets you emotional involved is a winner.

I dont hate it  but I cant find a reason to like it

Great, promising start, that just doesn't deliver. Never really found it a very gripping story. Although the ending scene with Ponds is just so beautiful, and I guess disappointingly is the best bit of the episode.

Ughh, 1/10 from me. One of the worst on NuWho so far. I'd even say Love and Monsters was better than this. Absolutely hated.

4/10 from me, would have been lower but the ending with the Ponds was great  :)

Planet of the Deaf

A slightly generous 6/10, as it was a bit slight and syrupy, but then it was Christmas Day and after too much food and drink a relatively simple episode with a bit of weepiness fits the bill!

The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe is the only episode I truly dislike, it is too childish and christmassy. 1/10

7/10 Now, before you ask... that Christmas hadn't really gone to plan. Some things happened where it kind of went downhill and this episode was the main thing I was looking forward to giving me an uplift. Despite the hate and criticism against it, it holds a special place in my heart for the sole reason it was the episode that cheered me up when I was down. And, I can't deny that I did quite enjoy the majority of it. Plus, it was filmed right behind my college, so it holds relevance to my town too.

Deus_Ex_Machina
Deus_Ex_Machina

Easily the worst Christmas special to date. The only things that redeem it are the funny space marines (who were still sort of wasted) and the references to a The Caves of Androzani. I almost wish I could rate it higher, but it has to be a 2/10.

There you go. I just wish more people would give this another go. It's actually a lovely little episode.

I didn't really enjoy it on first watch, but on re-watch (earlier today in fact, forgetting that this was tonight's poll), I REALLY REALLY Enjoyed it and thought it was just a beautiful heartwarming tale. Ok, it's a bit silly at some points but that's what makes it so good- it's not a serious drama, it's a comedic fairytale that's the sort of family film you'd see in a cinema with your kids (or in my case, great grand-kids) and it's just really emotional and heartwarming and a great ride! 9/10!

I also think it was the worst ever episode in the whole of Nu-Who. The best and only part I liked was the scene with Amy and Rory at the end.

Maryanne123
Maryanne123

I think most people DID enjoy it. The ratings and AI figures bear that out. You certainly can't ask for more in a Christmas episode. Hey it's not as great as The Snowman or Christmas Carol, but not being as perfect as those two episodes are is no crime. And it sure beats Kylie in Space or that one with the giant robot. If Widow gets only 1 or 2 out of 10, what would those two bits of coal in your Christmas stocking rate?

I don't understand the hate for Love and Monsters and Fear Her. People say they were too childish but I find them both very entertaining and I'd quite happily watch both again.

loopeedeedo
loopeedeedo

Fear her is the only 1(as in "Exterminate!"I have. But as far as the Moffs run, especially an episode he wrote, this is by far the most wibbely-wobbely. Moments, but no real meat for me, or at least not enough.

Maryanne123
Maryanne123

Worst episode ever? Um, you did watch season 2 with Pouty and Gurner, didn't you? Or most ofseason 3 or most of season 4? Oh, you musnt't have seen The End of Whine then. That must be it! Yup, if you think a charming little bit of Christmas fun is the worst ever, you really haven't been into RTD's back catalogue!

What's the point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes?

I rate it 5.1/10 because The Fifth Doctor indirectly caused it :p. Fivey helps anything.

@Polyphase @Clara Prefect I do.  I like "Voyage of the Damned".  I loathed this one though; it's not quite the worst for me, but it's close; the only scene I like in it is the ending with Amy, Rory & the Doctor.  Christmas episodes of New Who...I'd rate them like this:

01 A Christmas Carol ***** (The Best)
02 The Snowmen *****
03 The Time of the Doctor ****
04 The Unquiet Dead ****
05 Out of Time (Torchwood) ****
06 The End of Time ****
07 Voyage of the Damned ****
08 The Runaway Bride ***
09 The Christmas Invasion ***
10 The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe *
11 The Next Doctor *
12 Attack of the Graske *

Pipnant

@DW_girl  I think there's plenty worse. My top hated are Night Terrors on top, probably this episode next and then both Craig episodes as I can't stand the character.

Does The Unquiet Dead count as an Xmas special? A Christmas Carol is my favourite too.
