50th Anniversary Box Set Incoming

day-five-ish-doctorsNews broke over the weekend that the 50th anniversary spoof The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot will finally be heading to DVD.

Colin Baker confirmed at the Myth Makers convention panel [via]. However, Baker said this would be part of a special 50th DVD set.

Further to this, a BBC DVD spokesperson has stated that Night, Day and Time of the Doctor are very likely to be included, though final confirmation of this is still pending. No mention of Name.

The release date is also still to be announced, though some of you will remember a “Collector’s Edition” of The Day of the Doctor was originally mooted for around summer time.

I remember when they filmed the 5ish doctors reboot protest scene and I panicked thinking it was genuine. I was like "Guys this will alienate you from the BBC, take the high road, please!"

David Prowse (Darth Vader) did that sort of protest thing over Episode 3 and sadly burned his bridge with Lucas. Thank god this was just a joke, I felt kinda stupid afterwards for almost thinking it was real. :D

NOOOOOOO!!!!  Of course, this is RIGHT after I just broke down and ordered the individual DVDs of those....

makes sense that  name of the doctor won't be included as that isn't really a special, its part of series 7.

Knew this was coming all along. This is the set that goes with the boxset collectors.

I'll only get it if it's on Blu-Ray and comes with extra features that we didn't get on the singles; like commentaries. AAISAT on Blu would be nice too seeing as the Americans are getting that separately.

Me, I would like the latest Prom concert to be included as well, preferably uncut.

Perhaps we can have the whole Doctor trilogy, AAISAT, Five-ish Doctors, and The light at the end as a bonus.

Makes sense that they would do this. That way the Smith era is nicely wrapped up without cramming the specials into the Season Eight box set. Similar to how they ended Tennant with a specials set. Now Capaldi gets his very own debut box set just like Matt did.

Audio commentaries. We really need commentaries for Day, from Steven, David, Matt, the director. We need them for 5ish, from the ex-Doctors, especially Peter. We need them for Time, from Steven, Matt and Jenna.

I bought the 50th anniversary episode, but with the Christmas episode, you get all 4 Christmas specials, so i may as well get that.

Hope they put the two great cinema clips on too -

I hope they include "An Adventure in Time and Space" too. And they could include the 11 part mini documentaries BBC America made for each Doctor.

Don't normally buy Doctor Who DVDs, but this sounds worth it. Those were all brilliant episodes from a brilliant year for Whovians.

I specifically opted not to get the individual releases for the 50th and Christmas specials because I figured something like this would come along. Glad to see that my patience payed off.

Too much of my money goes into these DVDs. I've recently started going back and filling in the gaps in my collection in chronological order. I have a long long way to go.

I've a already bought the 50th, but not the Christmas Special. I might get this, seeing as how it has Fish on it. Depends on how much money I have.

I'm also hoping for the hugely anticipated 50th and Christmas soundtrack to be announced soon. I just want the official regeneration music, such a great rendition of To Save the Doctor.

To add if it was on Blu ray with An Adventure I'd be happy and all the opening titles with the different themes in 5.1 sound would be cool.

I was told last Friday by the BBC that he would have news on the Five(ish) Doctors release within ten days. I already have Day and the Night.  My thought are that if it does include those two it will be expensive. I did hear it could include all the 50th anniversary programmes.

About time too! It seems amazing that quality programmes like Night of the Doctor and Fiveish could be buried on the red button. They DESERVE a more fitting way of being seen!

Incidentally I've heard that people have had problems with the bluray of DOTD, and its sound quality, has anyone here had the same experiences?

Finally, it seems the patience is paying off! I hope it includes Fish Drs, AAISAT, Night and Day + the two mini sequences  (Last Day and that other one), the cut bit from Day, and the extra sequences that came with AAISAT.

You would expect a special 50th DVD boxset to actually include Night and Day, surely at least- considering they were the specials. Even The Last Day should make it on there, as awful as it was. Time, although not really part of the 50th Anniversary (more the 2013 Christmas special) is arguably within the 50th year and is the final instalment of the 'Doctor' trilogy. If this logic applies, then Name should also appear. It would even be good to get an exclusive bonus scene depicting what happened after the end of Name with regards to how they all escaped the Doctor's time stream, but I can't see it happening...

Fantastic! This is was exactly what I was hoping for and now I'm very happy. :)

I want An Adventure in Space and Time to be thrown in here, and I want an ALL THE DOCTORS cover. Matt in the centre, John and David either side, Paul on one edge, David Bradley as Hartnell looking on from the other, screenshots of Tom as Curator, Five-Seven in Five(ish), the Three Doctors promo pic copy from AAiSaT filming and Peter from the end of Time on the back or in an inlay. Drool.

..... Aw well it seems I'm going to have 2 copies of Day.... WHAT A PROBLEM TO HAVE!

That's nice to include The Five(ish) Doctors.

This would be nice as it seems strange at the minute having got rid of all of my volumes in order to replace them with the full boxsets (to make things more tidy and somewhat neater in more ways than one) to now have volume like DVDs return in the form of Day and Time sitting there standing out like sore thumbs. Though it would be annoying to have Name included as then that would mean owning the episode twice. It would be like the whole Time release all over again by having episodes twice for no apparent reason.

If I have to buy Day and Time again just to get my hands on The Five(ish) Doctors, I will be massively cheesed off. I would have rather they just officially announced this before the individual releases (like they do with the series box sets) and I would have held off.

I know this'll sound weird, but I had a thought when I was watching Time for the umpteenth time yesterday: I would have named the episodes in the trilogy differently. Instead of Name, Day and Time I would have gone for Tomb, Day and Name. Sorry, just thought I'd let you know what was going on in my confused, fun head.

@Deus_Ex_Machina  I try to concentrate on completing one Doctor at a time. I have all of Peter Davison and am three short of all the Tom Bakers.

@Planet of the Deaf Yep. The last ten minutes are unwatchable. Exchanged the DVD but the same problem remains. It starts with voices not synching and gets worse.

Night was released already as an extra on the 50th's release.

@The Finn What's the other mini sequence? I thought Night and The Last Day were the only two.

MaraBackman

@Master Michael Moon I'd rather not have Time or Name on a 50th anniversary DVD, because I didn't like the first or final part of the trilogy and I don't want to spend money on those at all. I'd much rather have a DVD with Day (with Night as an extra), AAISAT and The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot, because those three are to me the best ways to celebrate the 50th anniversary.

PaddyB

@awkward912 I read 'the end of Time' as 'The End of Time' there. Dammit confusingly similar Doctor Who titles! (and that's before we get to '... of the Doctor'!)

I know what you mean about the volumes - I have Series 1-3 in volumes, Series 4 in a boxset, the 2009 Specials in volumes, Series 5 & 6 in boxsets, and then volumes of Series 7, An Adventure in Space and Time and The Day of the Doctor. It looks so bad! I should really get the boxsets for everything.

@Baker Street… is the Moment! Tomb have been a bit spoilery perhaps, and Name was an appropriate title as the name was needed to open the tomb, and the ending with Hurt showed that the name wasn't actually important. How about Name, Day and Turkey?

Tomb would have been a bit dark really.I would have named Time differently though something like his last bow, his last stand or something like this...

Me too, I have nearly ever story currently available, some of the episodes I'm missing are no longer being manufactured in Australia, so I'm going to have to wait for a Special Edition to be released.

@Deus_Ex_Machina True, I used it to flesh out my argument :-)

A very good anniversary programme that rather slipped under the radar was the Culture Show special, I doubt it will be included on any box set, but it was an excellent  documentary and far more analytical than the 2 hour BBC3 programme.

Master Michael Moon

@MaraBackman @Master Michael Moon I do kind of agree with you. Name is already on the Series 7 boxset. To be fair, that episode has grew on me through multiple re-watches. I also agree about AAISAT being on it as well. Time I think splits the fans, but I would still like to see it on there as part of a boxset for completion. I'm not a fan of having to buy episodes on their own. I was initially angry TDTWATW wasn't going to be on the Series 7 boxset (despite technically being the first episode of Series 7) and they changed that at the last minute.

Huknar
Huknar

@Baker Street… is the Moment! Yeah, I've got series one on two UMDs, two dvds, series 2 in a complete boxset. Series 3 in volumes. Series 4, specials, 5 6 and 7. I was really hoping the anniversary stuff would be on a neat boxset, and I'm so glad it will be.

MaraBackman
MaraBackman

I Time could be part of a separate boxset for the trilogy and its accompanied shorts, because I believe that people are roughly equally willing to buy Time either as a separate DVD or as part of a set. I have a policy of buying sets only if I know that I'll like most of the stories on it, so that I'll get most of my money's worth. I already know that I'm not buying any of the sets for Series 6 or 7, because there are not enough stories in either season that I'd be willing to spend money on. That is also why I'm more than happy to not have the rest of the trilogy together with Day, because the two other anniversary specials are both more important to me and I actually enjoy them even more than Day.
